CHAPTER 9 - UNDEAD
After crossing blades and powers, the Spiritguide finally started to weaken. Nero took this opportunity to to knock him off. While Kitara was busy crossing blades with him, Nero ran to a wall and leaped over to the element and slashed his blade through his chest.
The Spiritguide stumbled backwards as Nero landed beside Kitara. The element dropped to the ground and Nero knew it was game over.
"I win", Nero smirked at her.
A curve formed on the side of Kitara's lips as she watched the Spiritguide slowly stand back up from behind Nero. He turned back to see the element charging towards him. He drew his sword to counter him but he was too late when the Spiritguide suddenly set ablaze.
The fire tore him to pieces until only ash was left of where he once stood.
Nero turned back to see Kitara with her hand stretched out and a smirk painted on her face. His shoulders dropped as he let out a laugh and admitted his defeat.
"Everyone knows it's a bad idea to make a bet with me, Nero Siege", she grinned as she sheathed her sword.
"Alright, alright, ask away", he said.
But before Kitara could open her mouth to speak, they both heard loud footsteps from behind. They turned and their eyes widened as they saw hundreds of Spiritguides marching towards them.
"oh gods..." they both muttered in unison.
"Quick, to the portal!", Nero dragged Kitara towards the great portal that led to different realms.
"We're going to have to concentrate to where we want to go. We need to picture out how that place looks like", Nero said as they stood in front of the portal.
"Have you ever been to Pallacine?", Kitara said before quickly glancing behind her to see the Spiritguides nearing them.
"No, but it's the Isle of the Dead. Just picture out death and dark stuff", he demanded.
"Are you serious? What if we end up in a different place?"
"I'm open for suggestions", they both turned back and saw that the Spiritguides were only a few feet away from them.
"Screw it!", Kitara shouted as she took Nero's arm and entered the portal.
When they opened their eyes, they were met by the sun rising in front of a lake.
"We are so not in the Isle of the Dead", Nero breathed out as he took a step forward and scanned their surroundings.
The place looked normal and much like Thrandal, except there were bunches of yellow-leafed trees here and there. The atmosphere was a bit dark despite the rising sun. The winds were slightly strong and cold.
Kitara's eyebrows furrowed when she spotted a bony figure of a man behind a tree. It stood far from her and she couldn't see what the thing looked like.
"Nero, come over here", she called out to Nero who was scanning the ground. Nero stood up and walked towards her. "Look", Kitara pointed out to the figure.
They both cautiously walked forward to take a closer look and when they were close enough to see what it looked like, both their eyes widened in shock.
The figure was a man who had pale, purplish, crusty, decaying skin and his face had dark sockets but no eyes. He didn't have any lips instead, he had a mouth that held sharp rows of teeth. He had very thin and white long hair that covered small parts of his face.
But the two were even more surprised when the creature's eyesockets glowed a bright red. He let out a loud groan and the two warriors stepped backwards and flinched at the terrible smell it released.
They heard footsteps from behind making them turn and Kitara let out a gasp at what she saw. Hundreds of those creatures gathered around them as they rose from the lake and from the trees.
"We might be in the Isle of the Dead, after all", Kitara pulled her sword from its sheathe and scanned her eyes around for a possible escape routes.
"Yeah, I noticed", Nero said sarcastically as he did the same.
"The Undead, I read about these creatures before", Kitara said. More and more of them came as they endlessly circled the two.
"Did you also read about how to get rid of them?", Nero stood behind Kitara as her back faced him.
"Uh, no. I might've missed that part. I never thought they actually existed"
"Great. Then we're gonna have to fight them off", he said as he started slashing off Undeads that got near them. "We don't want to waste mana on these guys but, we'll be having trouble fighting them off by hand."
"Then we have no choice", Kitara said as she kicked one creature away. She sheathed her sword and raised her right hand while her left held Nero's free arm.
Her raised hand set ablaze and she let out a yelp as she forcefully dropped her palm to the ground. Ripples of fire burned down all the Undead as the trees shook the place.
Kitara stood as she eyed her surroundings. The creatures had all burned to ash and Nero turned to her.
"That technique of yours is very useful", Nero complimented as he sheathed his sword.
"Don't sheathe that sword just yet. Look", she pointed out when more of the Undeads came marching towards them again.
"You have got to be kidding me...", he sighed.
"This is endless. Hold on to me. Let's fly our way out of here", Kitara said as she prepared to summon her wings.
But before Nero could reach her, a bright light appeared before the two and grumbling sounds filled them.
When the light settled, the two warriors were met by a familiar white-haired man. Nero's eyes were wide and Kitara lips slightly parted as they processed who the man was. He was striding behind a stallion with a bright lamp and some kind of red stone in his hand.
"Hurry, get on!", the two quickly snapped out of their state of shock as they rode the other stallion that the person brought.
The three quickly sped through the forest with the Undeads trailing behind them. Kitara was sitting behind Nero who drove the stallion. She summoned fire from her hand then shoved it to the ground as they passed, creating a wall of fire. It was able to hold off some of the Undeads but most of them still got through. Kitara summoned her flames again but the white-haired man stopped her.
"Don't waste your strength. We're near the edge!", he shouted. Kitara looked in front and saw a bright light at the edge of the forest.
Kitara turned her attention towards their rescuer. His sharp gray eyes, pointed nose, plump red lips, pale complexion, and perfectly-shaped face. He still looked the same, except his white hair had now reached his waist.
