CHAPTER 11: Mirror of Me

Back at the hut, they told Galen about their mission and he said that he recently found an odd looking island beyond the mystic clouds in the western border. The person they were looking for may or may not be in that island but Kitara and Nero thought it was worth a shot, so that was where they were headed.

"And yet another lake", he said as he eyed the body of water before them. Beyond it was a dark forest that held red glowing eyes and eerie screams of the Undead. "It's too much of a risk to swim our way through. We can't also pass through the sides, unless ofcourse, you're willing to face those freaky creatures again."

"Why swim or pass on the sides when we can fly our way through", Kitara said as she regained the mischievous grin on her mouth that disappeared when she found out about Galen.

"No, you can fly. I'm no Phoenix, Redcake", he said as he waved his hand in front of her.

"Then I'll carry you, problem solved"

Nero's eyes widened and his face went pale in horror at what Kitara had just said. "No, thanks. It's not that I don't trust you because I really do, it's just that I'm a Siren, I don't do flying, so I'd rather feed myself to the Undead"

"Unlucky you", Kitara summoned her fiery wings and the pallor on Nero's face got worse. "I still need my partner", she grinned as she, without warning, took Nero's arm and soared to the sky.

Nero let out an embarrassed scream as he struggled under Kitara's grasp. "Put me back to the ground right now, Kitty! Oh gods!", he didn't care if he sounded like a coward when Kitara laughed at his reaction.

"You took me diving once, so we're even now. Besides, it'd be a shame to miss this fine scenery. Best view is from above", she said as she watched the view in front of her. Nero followed her gaze and he suddenly stopped struggling.

"Wow", he breathed out.

"Beautiful, isn't it? I didn't notice it 'till now", she said as she watched.

The night sky at Pallacine was nothing but breathtaking. They flew with the calming breeze enveloping them as they watched billions of stars surround the horizon before them. Somehow, it relieved the two and refreshed their minds.

"Things aren't so dead at the Isle of the Dead, after all", Nero said as he finally settled down.

"Ironic, right? Even beautiful things can happen at the face of darkness itself", she said and Nero let out a hum before silenced filled the two.

"By the way, how are you carrying me like this? Don't your arms hurt?", he asked.

"Phoenix' can carry a weight ten times their own"

Nero raised his head to see her. If the view before him was beautiful, the view above was even more jaw-dropping. He was at awe when he saw Kitara's gentle yet fierce face perfectly fit the background of countless stars beyond her. Her blood red hair danced with the cold winds as the strands freely uncovered her face.

Her eyes were even more of an astonishing sight. Golden hazel orbs glimmered under the starlight as it held a dark yet beautiful story of a tragic past. It was interesting for it was glistered with beauty, yet at the same time, stained with a broken soul. It was perfectly balanced; like an amalgam of hope and emptiness. Nero couldn't seem to tear his gaze away from her eyes.

"Do you have any intentions of melting me?", Kitara looked down to meet his gaze. Again, that tingling feeling in her stomach aroused when their eyes locked.

Nero painted a gentle smile on his face and Kitara's heart beated faster. She knew why she felt like that, she wasn't numb, nor was she ignorant. She knew she was starting to develop feelings for this cunning, arrogant, yet kind-hearted and brave white-haired Siren. What she was worried about was the fact that it was such a wrong time.
