(watch the oblvion video clip before reading this please! i linked it! this piece of writing was inspired also by the picture which is linked to. it's a picture of dan, woody, kylye & will in the video. ps; does anybody know what sport that is in the oblivion video? my dad called it car rodeo but i'm not sure haha)
CRACKED HEART
Her fingers traced the photo frame slowly as she peered into the young man’s eyes that were captured within the wooden frame. The corners of Arabella’s lips turned downwards as her fingers began to tremble. He looked so fierce and invincible in the photo. His scrunched up face, one that he made when he acted as if he was tough, was ripping Arabella’s cracked heart by the second as it pounded loudly in her chest.
Dan looked badass in the picture, a trait he had which made his girlfriend love him so much. He was everything she ever wanted in someone, and besides their rocky start, Arabella learned to love him day by day.
She knew it would never end well for him. Despite the talks of the people around them calling him undefeatable or the ‘Dangerous Dan’, he seemed to prove everyone wrong, just like Arabella knew he would. You can’t always win, and that statement seemed to be proved correct on November 28th 2013.
His friends were next to him on the side. The one left to him was called Christopher Wood but was known as Woody. Some even called him ‘Woody the Woodchopper’. The name seemed ridiculous but it was true, Woody was strong and his figure was sturdy but he was quite short. He had dirty blonde hair that reached down to his shoulders, and a fringe covering like a veil just across the right eyebrow.
The next young man was Will Farquarson. He was a slightly taller than Dan and Woody, and was quite steady. He wore a cap in the picture, something he would wear time by time, especially during hot summers day, which was usual here in Colorado. Will wouldn’t say much, instead he would listen in the conversation and bring in his part whenever he felt the need. Overall he was laidback, like most rodeo drivers were.
The last one was called Kyle. He had an impressive moustache and a beard while at the age of 27 and thick chocolate coloured hair. Kyle was a complex guy who seemed to not fit in with the area he was in. He owned about three cats, and whenever he had the chance he would slip them in the conversation. He didn't do car rodeos – instead he helped people fix their tires or their cars, sometimes sneaking in a cheeky cat joke.
When Dan passed, his three best friends were torn. They didn’t talk for about three weeks, until Woody had enough with the silence. Arabella followed their footsteps, except she stayed quiet.
The little house they shared on the car rodeo property was filled with trophies Dan had earned in the past five years, and there were a lot. So much that Arabella didn’t even know where to start with throwing away, so she didn’t. Instead she kept all the trophies exactly where he put them and pretended that he was still there with her. He was a legacy among the people who did car rodeos, and he was one that would never be forgotten.
Arabella nearly cries everyday without the presence of Dan. She always told him that one day he has to stop. That one day he’ll take it to far, to the point of no return and he would leave her alone. He always told her he would never leave her. But he did and that was something Arabella could never forgive him for. He left her in a world that was only built for him.
