Chapter 5
“We are finally here.” Artie states out of breath. I made him run the last kilometer with me. We had to walk pretty far from the station but it was so worth it. Jessie made me run because I was shaking all over. I couldn’t stop out of excitement. Jock just grabbed my bag and eventually Artie’s and we just ran.
I felt so free for a moment, just so happy and alive. The feeling stopped as I bumped into someone and they dropped their bag.
“I’m sorry,” I looked up with a smile, as I knelt down to grab the things that fell out of his bag. A very handsome teenager stares down at me with huge, puppy brown eyes. But his face is so dull, like he hides a lot of secrets. He reminds me of someone. Xavier. My smile fades and I just drop everything.
“It’s fine,” He kneels down next to me and grabs his things. All I want to do is run away. He is just like Xavier with his leather jacket and black outfit. I stared, terrified, at him. He slowly stands up and looks down at me. I follow his gaze
“Are you okay? You look kind of pale. Here, I’ll help you up.” He reaches out his hand but I refuse. Luckily, Artie helps me up. “Thank you. I’ll take it from here.” Artie thanks the boy and holds my arm as he tries to turn my gaze away from the boy.
The boy slowly turns around and walks back to his crew. The same kind of people as Xavier.

“What was that about?” Artie asks with concern. I can’t stop thinking about the horrific memory. I snapped out of the thought as I notice Artie is talking to me. “Umm, what? Nothing,” I try to say.
“Nothing? You are really pale Laine, that’s not nothing.” Artie trys to hold me still as I am still shaking of terror. “I’m serious Artie, there is nothing wrong.” I loosen myself from his grip, “Come on, let’s go have some fun.” Artie’s face doesn’t look satisfied but I grab his hand and we walk over to Jessie and Jock who are standing in the ticket line.

Luckily, the line moved fast. We had our ticket in advance but even the line of people with a ticket seemed long. My mind can’t get off the Xavier figure I had met. I try to put it behind me. He actually seemed nice. He was at least more nice than his gang. But… Xavier was like that too in the beginning.
We are finally inside, ready to put up our tent. We have the whole afternoon to walk around and explore. Tonight some bands are going to play. After we had put up our tent, Jock and Jessie decided to get us something to drink. Artie and I stay by the tent. He is inside the tent taking a nap. I sit outside on the lookout for Xavier.
I see a lot of people, all kinds of people. This festival offers a lot of different music styles. In the distance I see a group of boys and girls with their leather jackets. I feel myself tense up and feel a wave of terror.
“Are you okay? You seem pretty tense.” A voice says to me. “I’m fine, Artie. Just enjoying the sight of people.” “A sense of humour.” “What?” “She’s got a sense of humour.” I turn around to see the handsome teenager from earlier today.
He really is handsome but I don’t like him. I can’t, not after what happened. My heart starts pounding in my chest. I wish I have something to defend me. At least Artie is in the tent.
“What do you want from me?” I finally say. The boy smiles, “Hi, my name is Dylan.” At that moment my heart stops beating, not of terror, but of happiness.
His voice is like the sound of a song. So beautiful and calm. I feel the urge to just run into his arm and kiss him. He is so sweet and I feel like I can trust him but I don’t even know him. He can’t be trusted. He was just like him, just like Xavier.
Ignoring his introduction, I say, “Aren’t you supposed to be with your friends over there?” “Not really, I’d rather walk around and see what humoristic people I can find.” He really is cute. He smiles and small dimples form in his cheek.
I can’t fall for him though, he is too dangerous. He can’t be trusted. But he is so sweet and I just can’t take my eyes off of him. He keeps smiling until something snaps the both of us out of our stares.
“Adelaine!” Someone’s voice calls me. I turn my head around to see the girl that I really didn’t want to see. She is the daughter of my parent’s friends. I never liked her.
“Sarah!” I give her a fake smile as she gives me a hug. As our grip loosens, Dylan comes closer to me and whispers with a smile, “So, your name is Adelaine. That’s all I wanted to hear.” I can feel my cheeks burn.
Sarah continues her conversation, trying to involve Dylan. “How are you Adelaine? I haven’t seen you a lot this year.” I reply, “I’m fine.” She ignores my answer and immediately switches to Dylan. She seems very interested.
“Oh and who is your boyfriend?” she asks. “He is not my boyfriend,” I try to say but Dylan cuts me off. “I’m Dylan.” “Sarah,” Sarah says with a blush. “Nice to meet you.”
Dylan gives me a small grin. The same exact grin that Xavier gave me. It kills me. Luckily, I see Jessie and Jock come towards us with four plastic bags with food and drinks.
Dylan notices them too and says to the both of us, “Well I have to get back to the tent, nice meeting you.” Dylan turns around to leave, and as he walks past me, he softly says, “I’ll see you around, clumsy.” He winks and walks off.
Sarah watches every step he makes until he is just a little speck in the crowd. I have to agree with her, he isn’t bad looking. He is not very muscular but he doesn’t have a chubby body either. Just perfect.
Sarah suddenly says, “I’m going to get back to my tent too. It was nice to see you again, Adelaine.” “Bye, Sarah,” she skips away, as I say that.
“Hey Laine, you made some new friends?” Jessie asks. “Well one is an old acquaintance and the other is a stranger.” I reply. “It’s a start. Now let’s wake up the lazy one and eat.” Jock says with excitement.
**
I can’t stop thinking about those eyes… We had a lot of fun listening to some bands tonight. Finally, laying in our save tents, I can’t sleep. I feel so awake. I need to find him but I can’t. He can’t be trusted. He is probably getting into trouble right now. If he seems like such a troublemaker, why can’t I get him out of my head…
