Chapter 7
He holds me tight as we stand in the rain listening to some rock and roll, indie music. We had been together for about 48 hours and it has been the best two day of my life. As I lean into Dylan's arms he kisses my forehead. I close my eyes and enjoy the moment. It feels like we have been together for years. Every second of every hour makes me feel even closer to him. In the past 48 hours we have learned more about each other than a couple learns about each other in 25 years. The only thing I haven't told him about is the incident. He hasn't asked about it but I know I'll eventually will have to tell him.
I feel kind of bad because I hadn't hung out with Artie, Jock and Jess today. So after the concert I decided to go to the tent instead and hang out with them. Dylan gave me a quick peck on the cheek before I headed back to the others.
**
"Hey guys!" I say as I walk up to the tent.
"Hey Laine! How was the concert?" I see Jock's head pop out of the tent and he slowly gets up. He walks towards me and gives me a hug.
"Good. It was fun! Where are Jess and Artie?" I ask. I look around not seeing them.
"Jess is taking a nap in the tent and I don't actually know where Artie is. I thought he went with you guys."
"No... he wasn't there." Now I am worried. I knew he didn't trust Dylan but that doesn't mean he can just lie and leave. Jock notices the fear in my eyes.
"Laine, chill! He'll be okay. He's probably just gone to the toilet or gone to get something to eat." Jock reassures me. I still think it is suspicious.
"Umm, I'm still going to go find him, okay? I'll be back soon. I have my phone, so text me when he comes back." I run off without saying goodbye.
**
I have run around for about an hour now. I know I shouldn't stress out, but Artie would never lie. There must be something. What if he left? Is he jealous because I'm with Dylan now? So many questions were going through my mind. Knowing these kind of festivals, anything could have happened. The thought escapes when I run into a familiar body.
"Wow, slow down, Speedy Gonzales." Dylan looks down at me with a smile. He is standing with his group of friends. Most of them are really high but luckily Dylan isn't.
I grab Dylan's hand and we walk to the bench where we had our first kiss.
"I need your help." I explain.
"What's wrong? Is everything okay? You look really pale. Are you sick?" Dylan puts his hand against my forehead, trying to feel if there is a fever.
"Artie hasn't come to the tent and I know it's only 12 a.m. And I shouldn't worry but he lied. He said he would come to the concert with us and he would never lie. And..." I get cut off by a kiss.
Dylan lets go and says, "Calm down, I'll help you find him. Come on."
Dylan grabs my hand and we start running and asking people if they have seen Artie, using a picture from my iPhone.
**
After about two hours of jogging around, we decide to split up. I run into the ruckus of people and Dylan runs towards the stage. I know it's crazy trying to find a person between all these people but if i try hard enough, I'll find him.
After about half an hour, someone pulls me into an isolated place. I scream but a hand is placed in front of my mouth. The person turns me around, and guess who it is...
I run into Artie's arm and say, "Where were you? Dylan and I have been looking around for you the whole time."
"Dylan, huh? So where is he then?" Artie looks down at me with anger.
I am shocked and reply, "What do you mean where is Dylan? he went looking for you. I better text him that I found you."
"I bet he left you for some stimulant," He says under his breath while I text Dylan.
Artie slams my phone from my hands. It falls to the floor with a thud. I quickly grab it form the ground, hoping it isn't damaged.
"What was that for?" Now I'm mad.
"Listen Laine. He is dangerous, you can't trust him. I don't want you seeing him again. He'll ruin your life just like Xavier did. He is Xavier. " Artie sounds satisfied but I feel rage fill my body.
"You can't tell me what to do. He is my boyfriend, he is the sweetest guy anyone could wish for. Mind your own business and leave me alone," I say turning around to walk away but Artie grabs my arm.
"Listen! He's a drug dealer. He just dates girls to make them buy his crap. You are falling in the trap Laine." Artie says more calmly.
"You are lying, just like you lied to Jess and Jock. I love him," that cut me off, did I really love Dylan or was I just saying that to protect him. I only knew him for a few days, it didn't feel like I liked him that much to say I love you. My brain brought me back to the thought and repeats the same three words, "I love him, Artie, and there is nothing you can do about that."
I turn around and run across the camp to where Dylan has his tent. I take one last glance back at Artie and he is still standing there, still and stiff.
