The silence between Chaeyoung and me was heavy as we walked through the halls. Even though I was still fuming over her stunt from the weekend, I couldn't just leave her to her own devices—especially since she'd practically moved herself into my condo. She had a perfectly good home, but for some reason, she was stuck to me like glue.
I saw Jisoo approaching from a distance. Like clockwork, Chaeyoung tried to bolt. I wasn't having it. I grabbed her hand, anchoring her in place.
"And where do you think you're going?" I muttered.
"Eonni, let go! Why would I be avoiding her?" she hissed, struggling against my grip. I just shook my head.
Jisoo arrived looking like a walking cliché, holding a bouquet and a box of chocolates. I had to laugh; the "Chipmunk" was officially cornered. I finally let go of Chaeyoung's hand just as Jisoo stepped into her personal space.
"Stop playing hard to get, Chaeng," Jisoo said, thrusting the gifts forward. "Just be my girlfriend already."
I actually choked on my own saliva. Direct, much?
"Go ask your own ass to be your girlfriend!" Chaeyoung yelled, red-faced, before spinning on her heel and sprinting away.
"I'm not stopping until you're mine!" Jisoo shouted back, instantly giving chase. She dodged students and slammed into shoulders, completely focused on the Vice President.
The hallway erupted into whispers. It was the school's star athlete chasing the VP—headline news for every 'Manobanist' on campus.
I stood there for a second, watching the chaos disappear around the corner. They really just left me standing here. In the middle of the hallway. Alone.
Great. Guess I'm back to being the third wheel to a bike that only has one person on it.
"You just ditched me! I told you to wait at the parking lot. If my mom hears about this, she's going to have my head," Lisa snapped, her voice echoing through the hallway. She looked as arrogant as ever, the typical campus "bad girl" everyone was obsessed with.
Oh right, I forgot I wasn't really alone.
I didn't even blink. "If your parents reprimand you. You probably deserve it." I kept my voice low and steady. I wasn't going to give her the satisfaction of a shouting match, even if I was still technically required to accompany her everywhere.
The students around us were already starting to buzz like a hive of bees.
"Lisa is so gorgeous today!" "Look at her... she's so cool." "Marry me, Lisa!"
I ignored the fans and looked directly at her. "Waiting for someone so slow isn't my thing," I said, adjusting the heavy stack of books in my arms.
"But you have to stay with me. That's the deal, isn't it?" she fired back, her eyes darting away for a split second.
"That doesn't mean I have to stand around a parking lot for twenty minutes while you take the long way just to stay away from me." I raised an eyebrow, my tone remaining soft but pointed. "You're avoiding me, Lisa."
Her face flushed for a fraction of a second. "What!? No, I'm not! I'm losing my patience with you!" She pointed a finger at me, her bravado clearly a shield.
"So? I never asked you to control your temper," I said, gently brushing her hand away. "Don't be a douchebag."
"Ugh! Just—whatever!" She shoved her hands through her hair, looking frustrated and flustered, before turning on her heel and stalking off.
