My favorite holiday of the year. Where you get to choose who you want to be and nobody laughs at you. When you can put makeup on and of it looks bad, it goes with the costume. I'm nineteen this year and my town still let's us trick or treat. Of course I'll be helping my fiance and his little sister, but I still get to do trick or treat.
In my town, we gave a myth. That if your heart gets broken on Halloween, you turn into whatever you dressed up as. So kids dress up in things they want to turn into, even if they don't understand the broken heart jist. Of course, us teens just tell our eyes and dress up in whatever. This year me and my fiance are going as a vampire couple.
Its 4'oclock, an hour or so before the sun starts to set, so we started to get ready. Brit, my fiance's little sister is getting dressed as a kitten, a big tail stuck out behind her that made us all laugh, but her brown eyes were full of joy.
My fiance dress in his Male vampire costume, his face void of color other than the bright red fake blood that coated his lips and chin. He snarled playfully at me as I snuck a look. I laughed, swatting at him. I went into our room down the hall from the bathroom and started putting the vampriss costume, the long dress that hung on my sides. I put on my flats that were sparkly. I put the fangs in and coated my lips with blood red lipstick. I picked up the fake blood and grinned. I dabbed some on my neck, then my chin. My eyes were a dark blue, so the outfit came together. The door opened behind me and I whirled around and hissed. My fiance, Reggie, flinched and started laugh.
"You look sexy." He said.
I winked. "I try."
I checked the time and saw it was 6 o'clock. The sun was setting soon, so we piled into the car and set out. By the time trick or treating happened, I lost Reggie in the crowd as well as his sister. I huffed out a breath and went back to the car and dialed his number. It went straight to voicemail.
A couple minutes later, Brit and their dad comes walking to the car. I raised my head. "Wheres Reggie?"
Their father looked confused. "I thought he was with you."
Brit nodded. "Yeah. He said he went to the car with you."
I shook my head. "No. He never came this way."
Franklin shook his head. "Oh, well. We'll find him." He unlocked the car and I opened the passenger door. Brit gasped and I looked into the back. Reggie and another girl were locked in an embrace, his hand down her pants. Engaged and yet here he was cheating. I gave a snort of disgust, even when they broke apart and looked at me. I shook my head and slammed the door, stalking off. The crowd of kids killed his voice calling after me and stopped him from following. I made it to a park and say down.
A rush of wind whipped around me, causing me to shiver, goosebumps prickling my skin. My heart ached and a tear fell. A figure came and sat down next to me. Black, head to toe. Uncomfortable, I shifted away. Suddenly, everything stalled around me. The world slowing down, my skin losing the goosebumps, the wind stopped bothering me. My stomach cramping a bit. I gasped and felt the fake fangs. I rolled my eyes and tried to pull them out, but nothing happened. I tried again and a bolt of pain laced through me. I gasped and stood up, my movements fast. I looked at the figure next to me. The figure looked up and dark black eyes stared deep into my soul.
"Its okay, broken hearted. You're free now."
I backpedaled and ran, my speed taking me to the house where he lived as well as my stuff in three seconds flat. I opened the door and he was in our old room, his head in his hands, tears falling down his cheeks.
"What have you done to me?" I snarled, my fangs muffling some of it. His head snapped up and his bright blue eyes widen.
"What are you?"
"The myth, it's TRUE. You broke my heart and now I'm a vampire!" I shouted.
He flinched and scrambled back. "God, I'm sorry."
I laughed humorlessly. "Sorry? Sorry?!"
I don't remember the rest of that night. Early November 1st, I watched the news and saw Reggie Green was killed in an attack, no mention of me. His family was safe, but confused. I knew who killed Reggie. It was me, but rage wasn't going to consume me forever. I now have plans, plans to save the future. I smiled and looked at the mirror, the one that no longer showed me.
"Vampress." I said, my eyes glinted. "I'm going to be Queen of the Broken. The ones who become the costumes they were in Halloween."
And I did.
