Lillith Jackson walked down the hallway, students by their lockers. They were laughing and joking around as she squeezed her way to her locker on the other side of the school. She kept her eyes on the ground, too nervous to caught eyes after the rumors started going around about her parents. As she neared her locker, she collided with another human body. Solid and warmth against her hand as she out them up to catch herself. A startled gasp flooded out her mouth, cheeks heating up. She slowly looked up, not noticing how quiet the hallway went. Chiseled jaw, tanned face, pink lips, strong nose and then bright blue startling eyes. Black curling hair framed his face. He didnt look angry, more annoyed. His eyes jumped around them and she slipped her arms away, suddenly realizing all the eyes on them. Lillith noticed a few girls lean in and whisper to each other, laughing at something the other said. Her whole face started to burn, the attention flooding her. The man before he stared her down.
"I'm sorry." She barely whispered before shoving passed him and through the silent crowd. She felt eyes all over her, but she felt his burn through her. Keeping her head down, careful to walk more slowly, she made it to her locker. Lillith let a small puff of air go, her sides aching. Stashing her writing notebook in her locker, she quickly grabbed her small bag. Slipping the strap over one shoulder, she made her way out of the high school. Some kids closest to the door snickered as she ran down the steps, eyes following her.
"Hey!" A voice boomed behind her. Lillith jumped, her heart racing. She twirled, colliding with a chest. Blazing blue eyes started down at her again, this time amusement glittered at her. She stepped back, her cheeks red. He held out a black tattered folder. "You dropped this."
Her eyes went wide and she tried to snag it, but he yanked it back, just out of her reach. He tsked. His eyes roaming her face, landing on her cheeks. "Ah, ah, ah. For rudely running into me, you have to make it up to me."
Lilith raised an eyebrow, completely taken by surprise. "Bad boy Jace, wants my help?"
Anger flickered through eyes, his jaw muscle flexed. "Do not go there, rumors fly."
Fury flooded through her. "I wouldn't talk." She shook her head, her emerald eyes raging as she raised them to stare him down. The anger making her more confident. "What do you need?"
Anger ticked his jaw, but a smirk played his lips. "I need you to be my date tomorrow night."
Lillith sputtered, her heart flipped. "Excuse me?"
Jace rolled his eyes, stepping an inch closer. "I need," he said slowly like he was talking to a child. "You to be my date tomorrow."
She flipped him off, acting on adrenaline. "Whatever. What time and what do I need to wear?"
He stepped back, his eyes hard and a coy smile on his face. "7 o'clock and something fancy." He winked. "Shouldn't be a problem."
She turned and walked away, leaving him standing there, anger curling in her gut.
The next day, Lilith grabbed a black dress from her closet. It was fancy, but elegant. It hugged her curvy frame enough to show, but to cover enough to be classy. It was calf length, flowing from the bust. She grinned at herself, spinning in the mirror. She had curled her hair and put on light make-up.
A knock on the door made her turn. Her mother stuck her head in and caught a look at her. Surprise crossed her face, then she gave a girlish scream. "Oh, my. You look gorgeous! You have a date?!"
Lilith blushed, the heat rushing to her cheeks. "Kind of."
Her mother stopped, her sea green eyes confused. "Kind of?"
"I ran into a guy because I wasn't looking and for me to make up for it, he said I need to be his date tonight." She explained.
Her mother looked astonished. "Either he is desperate or it is a really good pick up line."
"Mother!"
She smiled, raising her hands up. "I'm just saying."
Lilith remembered the last few weeks and felt guilty. "Are you okay?"
Her mother's face fell, the glow dimming. "Let's just talk about where you're going."
She nodded, feeling the subject change. "I would love to, but he never told me and I didnt ask."
Her mother sighed. "You, my dear, are hopeless."
Lilith shrugged. "Oh well. Probably after tonight, he'll go back to being the bad boy and me the loner girl."
The door bell rang and her mother pulled back. A wicked grin formed on her face, and she took off towards the door. Gasping, Lillith took off.
"Mom, no!"
Laughing, her mother pulls the door open and is faced with Jace. He wore a black button up shirt that made his tan skin show. Dark washout Jean's hung his frame. His black hair was combed, but a little curl fell atop his forehead in a completely adorable way. His bright blue eyes raked her body slowly and his pupils dialated.
"Are you ready?" His deep voice knocked some sense into her and she nodded, not meeting her mother's eyes as she stared at them bewildered.
"This is him?" Her mother whispered, her eyes wide.
Blushing, she nodded and started shoving Jace out the door once again and slamming it closed. Letting loose a small puff of air, she turned to Jace. He was looking down at her, eyebrow raised.
"You didn't want me to meet her?" He asked amused.
Scowling, she pushes passed him. "Why? So she can ask about you when this is a one time thing?"
Jace shrugged. He gave her a side wink. "I'm unforgettable."
Lillith snorted unattractively. "To me, you are."
Hurt crossed his face and his face went neutral. He opened the door for me and didnt say a word as she climbed in. He went around and slipped in on the driver side, starting the car.
"Where are we going?" Lillith asked after a few tense moments.
"Somewhere. My mother wants me to meet her new boyfriend, and I cant stand when drags me into shit." Jave muttered.
"Why do you need me?"
He sent her a sly smile. "Because she'll be too bust obsessing over you to talk about her date and boring me."
Lillith rolled her eyes. "How long have they been together?"
Jace shrugged. "A couple weeks, I think."
Frowning, Lillith rocked to the music drifting from his speakers. Noticing, Jace turned it up bit. "I didnt take you for a Shinedown fan."
She threw him a smile. "I didnt you for one either."
They pulled into a fancy restaurant parking lot, the blinking green light illuminating them. Shaking her head, Lillith gets out of the car, Jace a few seconds after her.
He holds out his arm for her, his eyes blue. "Ready?"
She nods and takes his outstretched arm, walking through the front door. As Jace talked to the receptionist, she looked around and saw a familiar face that made her stomach drop.
Jace tugged on her arm, pulling her towards them, to him. A blonde woman sat next to him laughing and holding his hand. His eyes widen as they connected to her's. The blonde's flickered up and the same bright blue eyes as the man who held her arms connected everything.
The smile in the blonde's face blossomed and she jumped up. "Jace, my baby, you came!"
Jave grimaced and looked down at Lillith, but her eyes were trained on the man. "Lillith?"
The man stood suddenly, his brown eyes darkening. "I-"
A broken, rattling breath escaped her. "Dad?"
