My Light In The Dark ~ Book 1: Ripper's Fury

I'm a Paleontologist!

Rain POV...

I ran for the coffee shop as fast as I could. Kara was fired up and was willing to kill anything in her way.

"Rain look out!" Maisie yelled before shoving me to the ground, and falling on top of me.

Kara suddenly flew right over us.

"Kara just tried to attack me!" I yelled.

Maisie nodded her head before getting off me, rolling me over, standing me up with her, and making a beeline for the shop.

Maisie POV...

When we reached the shop, Rain opened the door and held it for me as I ran in.

Suddenly, after I closed the door, a bloody hand smashed against the glass door. I screamed as Rain grabbed my hand and started to back up with me.

 A bloody and mangled body then smashed against the door, cracking it. I screamed as Rain grabbed my shoulders and started backing up, me going with him.

"Who's body is that?" I asked.

"I don't know... It looks like... my mother...." Rain replied.

I walked to the door, opened it, and then the lady suddenly grabbed my red sweater, somehow alive!

"Rot........ in.... Hell!" Rains mother struggled to say.

Rain flipped her the bird before walking up to me and kicking his mother in the face.

Her hand started getting a weaker grip on my sweater before falling to the ground. she gasped once more in pain before dying. Suddenly, Ripper came. He grabbed her and ran off into the night.

I shrieked before running inside, turning around, and locking the door.

"What happened to Carter, Claire, Owen, and Kat?" Rain asked looking around, bewildered to see nobody there.

"I hope they went looking for Claire." I replied.

"What do you mean 'looking for Claire'?!" Rain asked.

"Claire stupidly put down her phone when her and I went to go to the San Francisco bay to wash her shirt! She was using her phone as a flashlight!" I said, embarrassed for something that I had no part in.

"Don't tell Claire I said this, but that woman is a little screwed up in the brain!"

"Excuse you!"

"IT'S TRUE, MAISIE, AND YOU KNOW IT!"

"I DO KNOW IT, I JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO REACT TO IT!... PAIN?...WORRY?...JOY?...NO! Neither... I'm sorry for yelling... Its just... We're in a situation where we could die... I dont want that to happen!" I said, beginning to hug Rain and start sobbing.

"Me neither..." Rain said, putting his hands on my face and looking me in the eyes. "We're not going to die!" Rain said giving me a quick kiss on the cheek

Suddenly, there was a crashing sound, followed by a big thud.

"What was that?" I asked.

"I don't know!?" Rain replied.

I went behind the counter to see if the noise had come from inside and not outside like we thought.

"Should I take a doughnut?" I laughed.

"Aren't there security cameras looted all over the place?!" Rain asked.

I shrugged.

I looked at the cash register and beside it, there was a little monitor.

"Have you ever played 'Five Nights at Freddy's'" I asked.

"NO! I NEVER WANT TO EITHER! Why are you asking?" Rain said.

"Because this security system is very similar to the ones used in the game! It may be the same system in fact! That is, if that system company exists!"

"Can you use it to see the back of the shop where the dumpsters are?" Rain said, with a look on his face as if he were making a plan.

I shrugged. I flipped a switch on the monitor showing Ripper mangling the lady's body more. He was ripping out her guts and was leaving her a deflated balloon. She still wasn't deflated. Ripper leaned on her chest and broke all her ribs. He suddenly looked up at the camera and smiled.

"HIDE!" I demanded.

Rain came behind the counter and ducked down with me. I heard growling before seeing the upside-down silhouette of Ripper on the wall beside me. My best guess is that Ripper was hanging off the roof.

I started to panic. My breathing rose high, and tears came to my eyes.

"We're all alone..." I cried.

"No we're not! We have each other!" Rain said, hugging me.

I peeked out from behind the counter and saw Ripper trying to smash the door.

"He's cracking the glass with his hand!" I cried.

"Follow me!" Rain said before starting to crawl around the corner.

"Where are you going?!" I asked.

"Just follow me!" Rain insisted.

I went around the corner to follow him.

"Wait... We're going out the back door?!" I asked.

"How'd you know?! Was it the OBVIOUS door right in front-" Rain was interrupted by the door opening and Ripper standing right there, roaring.

Rain and I both screamed before out of the storage closet, a person dressed like Lara Croft came out with two DEagles, and started shooting at him before looking at Rain and I

"Run!" The person said with a chuckle.

"Let's do what she says!" Rain said, grabbing my hand, standing up, and running.

We ran out of the shop and heard a voice from above.

"Did you hear that?" I asked.

"Hear what? Me?" This person was obviously female.

The same person jumped off the roof , since it wasn't far off of the ground. She ran over to us and gave Rain and I a DEagle.

"Take these!" She said.

"Are you Lara Croft?" Rain asked, even though this person was blond.

"I'm a paleontologist!" She said.

"I'm Ellie Sattler!" Ellie said.
