My Light In The Dark ~ Book 1: Ripper's Fury

Maisie POV...

"RUN!!!" Another person dressed in the same outfit as Ellie came running from behind the shop, Ripper in pursuit.

Rain and I both turned around and started to run, but quickly realized that Ellie wasn't following.

"GO! I'll catch up!" Ellie insisted.

I shook my head and stood my ground.

"RUN!" The other person yelled, again.

Rain and I began to run, but Ellie waited until the other girl caught up to her.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something rustle.

"Stop, guys, stop!" I pleaded.

Suddenly, Kara burst out of the bush that I saw the rustle in. Kara ran straight toward Rain but stopped when I hopped in front of him.

I reached my hand out to touch Kara, and did for a brief second. I stepped toward her more and hugged her neck. A tear rolled down my cheek. Kara sniffled. She was crying, too, I guess.

"I love you, Kara..." I cried.

Another rustle scared Kara, and as she ran away, she ripped my red sweater and a little bit of my skin under it. I looked at the gaping slash in my arm and looked back at the way Kara went.

"What's going on?" Owen said.

"Did you find Claire?!" I asked.

"Yes." Carter said before stepping aside and showing me Claire.

"Maisie! What happened to your arm?!" Claire asked.

"Don't worry about it!" I chuckled.

Claire embraced me in a hug and accidentally wiped a little of her blood on my white t-shirt.

"Claire... I'm glad to see you too, but you're getting blood all over me!"

"I'm sorry, Sweetie!" Claire said.

"Hug Rain instead!" I laughed.

"No! I'm already bloody enough!" Rain said pointing to all the places he got cut on his face.

"Where'd you guys get those DEagles?!" Owen asked.

"We gave them to them, now you might wanna run!" Ellie said, finally catching up, and walking right along with her friend.

"Ellie, wait please!"

"WHAT THE HELL IS IT?!" Ellie snapped.

"Which way is the Golden Gate Bridge?!" I asked.

"How the hell should I know?! I have no sense of direction in this damn patch of forest!" Ellie yelled.

I suddenly heard what sounded like a little girl crying. Ellie's friend, who's name was also Maisie, went to investigate where the sound was coming from.

It sounded like it was coming from behind me and when Maisie pushed me out of the way, Ripper pounced onto Maisie and began ripping her apart. Fitting, as his name is Ripper.

"NO!" Ellie screamed, trying to jump on Rippers back, proceeding to smack and shoot him until he grabbed her and threw her on the ground.

"RUN!" Ellie bravely yelled, struggling to reach her gun, which had fallen on the ground.

We all ran out of the patch of forest and heard Ellie scream the most blood curdling scream I've ever heard.

I looked at Rain. His hand was over his mouth, his face was red and he was crying. I was, too... Claire hugged him, Owen hugged me.
