My Light In The Dark ~ Book 1: Ripper's Fury

Christmastime!

Maisie POV

Rexy and Lucy grabbed a half of Ripper and chomped down, splitting him in two, with guts and blood splattering everywhere.

Lucy only had a grip on the neck, not the head, so it fell and landed right in front of me when she bit down. Lucy and Rexy swallowed their halves and walked off into the morning sunrise together.

4 Months Later...

Maisie POV

"Just open the flippin' Christmas present!" Rain yelled.

"Just tell me what it is!" I demanded.

"If you don't open it, I will!" Owen said, putting his arm over Claire's shoulder on the couch.

I took off the bow and began to gently peel back the wrapping paper.

"I guess I'll do it!" Owen said before taking the present out of my hand and beginning to rip off the precious wrapping paper.

"It's a book... What book is it?" Rain asked.

"It's a photo album of the two of you that we put together!" Claire said.

Rain and I gasped before looking at each other, smiling.

I laughed before tackling Rain in a hug, followed by kissing him on a cheek while still on top of him.

"Be careful! You're gonna knock down the Christmas tree!" Claire chuckled.

"Why don't you open your present, instead of tearing the house down, Rain?!" Owen asked.

"Sure! It looks big!" Rain said going to the tree, picking up the large, heavy present that Claire, Owen and I had picked out.

Rain unwrapped the present, revealing a cardboard box. Rain opened the box with the hunting knife he had unwrapped earlier. He popped the top off and saw a black Recurve bow, along with a quiver, next to it.

"WHO...WHO GOT ME THIS?!" Rain said, leaving a long pause between the whos.

"The three of us." Claire said.

The doorbell rang and Claire got up to go to the door.

"Hey, Karen!" Claire said as the door creaked open.

"It's funny. Usually you're the one late, and we're right on schedule. I guess that's why no one builds there houses as little shacks in the middle of nowhere in California!" Karen said.

"Now if you're gonna act like that here, you can see your sorry-ass to the door."

"We came all the way out here to see you for Christmas and-"

"And that's the way you treat me? Owen and I worked A LONG time to get this finished! Plus, we had two kids to feed! We couldn't live in the estate because it didn't legally belong to us. It was damaged, and technically, now, belongs to Maisie, but she has no idea how to maintain a house! Maybe one day when she's older-" 

"Can you all shut up and quit bickering?" Rain said standing up, walking to Claire and Karen, and slapping both of them, "Don't argue on Christmas or Krampus will come!" Rain warned, jokingly, and walking back to me and sitting down.

"Merry Christmas, Uncle Owen!" Gray said hopping over Rain and I and hugging Owen.

"Hey, kiddo!" Owen replied.

"You must be Gray. Nice to finally meet you!" I said, offering to shake Grays hand.

"What are you doing?" Gray asked.

"Are you not aware of what someone trying to shake your hand looks like?" I asked putting my hand down.

I suddenly heard Karen scream, followed by her running back into the house.

"ALLYSON, ZACH STAY IN THE CAR AND STAY CALM!" Karen yelled, opening a window.

"Maisie, Kara showed up! She's keeping Allyson and Zach in the car!" Claire informed me, chuckling.

"I'll handle this."

"Maisie you'll die if you go out there!" Karen said to me.

Karen and I looked out the window to see Kara next to Karen's car, waving at Allyson and Zach still inside.

Rain walked alongside me as we walked out to Kara to calm her down.

"Kara!" I yelled.

Kara stopped and looked at me.

"Kara, don't worry! They're... Kind of related to me now! You can trust them!" I said nuzzling Kara while stroking the underside of her chin.

"Are-... Are you sure she's safe?!" Karen asked walking out with her phone, Claire with her Polaroid.

Allyson and Zach quickly ducked into the house behind Kara's back.

"Yes. Why?" I asked.

"Um. Karen wants to get a picture of her and Kara. And maybe one of you two and Kara by yourselves." Claire explained.

"Ok. Sounds good! We'll take it on the front porch, facing the forest!" I said.

"Ok! Lets go!" Karen squealed in fear and excitement.

We did exactly that. The first picture had Kara resting her chin on my head, Rain putting his head on my shoulder and arm around me. For the second picture, Karen wanted Rain and I to get on Kara's back, so we did. We climbed on Kara's back, Rain in front, me behind him, resting my chin on his shoulder, wrapping my arms around his stomach, and kissing him on the cheek.

"One for the Polaroid!" Claire said, quickly snapping a photo of the scene, but with Rain and I kissing...
