Chapter 20

Bella's POV

It's shortly after dinner the next day and I'm hanging out with the girls.

We decide to go to the park and I look at Christina.

"Can I drive us?" I ask hoping.

"You have your license?" Lisa asks me.

"Yeah, I do. See," I show them. Christina and Lisa look at each other.

"Okay Bella, but you gotta be careful."

"Don't worry, I always am," I tell her.

Lisa and Amy sit in the back, Lauren, Dani, and Katherine get in the middle and Christina's in the passenger seat. I get into the driver's.

"Wait, she's driving??" Dani says shocked and in disbelief.

"Yep," I stick my tongue out at her and everyone laughs. Then I turn my attention to the car. I carefully pull out of the driveway and drive us to the park.

"Lisa might kill me for this but you're even better at driving than she is," Dani says. Lisa swats her as we laugh.

We run around the playground a little bit then get bored and decide to go home. We end up in the living room just joking around.

Suddenly my phone rings. It's a number with a Seattle area code. I used to live there but I don't recognize the number.

"SHH!" I yell to everyone and once they're quiet I answer, "Hello?"

I get a man's voice on the other end.

"Hello, is this Bella Carter?" he asks.

"Um.. yes. May I ask who you are?"

"My name is Dr.Shepherd. I am so sorry to inform you that your best friend Meg was admitted to the hospital a few hours ago."

My mouth drops open and I stand there shocked. I finally form words.

"Wh-what happened? And why are you calling me?" I ask.

"According to her now ex boyfriend, they broke up earlier today as well as Meg has had a lot going on otherwise. She had an extremely high blood alcohol level and tested positive for drugs when she was brought in. She was in a serious car crash."

I almost drop my phone in shock. The Cimorelli's sit staring at me, starting to look concerned.

"Her ex boyfriend left," Dr. Shepherd continues, "And as he says there are no family members around. He suggested I call Meg's best friend, you."

"Okay.." I say scared to death.

"Are you able to come here to the hospital Bella?"

"Yes I can," I tell him hoping I can find a way.

"I hate to say this but please hurry. It was a very serious car crash and we're unsure if she will make it."

"Okay," I gulp, "Thank you for calling." We hang up and I run upstairs as fast as I can, locking the door behind me. I grab my suitcase and frantically stuff clothes in. I have some money so I could probably buy a plane ticket.

A few knocks are placed on the door. "Sweetie, what's going on?" I hear Katherine ask.

"If you don't open this door right now I'm going to smash it down!" Dani says, trying a different tactic which works. I open the door and the girls pile in.

"My best friend was in a serious car crash tonight. She was real drunk and high and I'm pretty sure she was trying to kill herself," at that point I sink to the ground and start to cry, "I'm all she's got so the doctor called me. But they aren't sure if she'll survive." At this point I'm violently sobbing.
