Black, red, black, red. Sage’s room is like how she dressed, dark. Lacey loved it; the room was completely different from her own. Her’ is colors and lots of it. In the corner of the room sat Lacey’s bag with her pjs and clothes for tomorrow. It wouldn’t be surprising if Lacey wore Sage’s t-shirt home or to sleep or both.

Both girls say on Sage’s bed. Sage’s back up against the wall while Lacey’s head was in her lap and her small feet dangling off the end of the bed. Lacey looked up at Sage after feeling her take a deep breath.

“What is it? I know that breathing,” Lacey struggled into a sitting position next to Sage, facing her.

“You know how your eyes and skin color changes?” Sage looked at Lacey’s eyes, the blue shimmering pools she loved so much.

“Yea. What about it?” What are you going to tell me? She thought instead of asking.

“I’m like you. Different but the same,” Sage bit her bottom lip lightly, waiting for Lacey’s reaction.

“What do you mean, babe?” Lacey slid her hand onto Sage’s forearm.

Sage looked down at Lacey’s hand then closed her eyes, “This.” The crackling blue energy appeared from her right hand and leaped between her right and left open hands.

Lacey gasped, taking her hand off of Sage’s forearm. In amazement and fear, she stared at the blue looking lightning bolts. She knew there was something different about Sage, why she accepted Lacey’s changings. But this, it wasn’t, couldn’t be possible.

“There’s more, Lacey,” Sage tried to smile, the blue energy disappearing.

Lacey looked up from Sage’s normal looking hands to her well known face. Within a second, Lacey recognized a difference in Sage’s smile. Yes it was a forced smile; no it wasn’t what Lacey noticed. It was the sharp, pointed canines and the bigger straighter teeth.

She didn’t hesitate after taking in the blue energy and the sharp teeth, Lacey moved to sit on Sage’s lap.

“Babe-,” Sage couldn’t say anymore for Lacey kissed her.

The kiss was different compared to all the other kisses they shared. Lacey knew that Sage was, kind of, and Lacey didn’t leave, yet.

Sage pulled away from Lacey, kissing her back first. She said, “I am a hybrid of a vampire and a witch. You are a shape shifter who is wanted. I’m here to protect you.”

“You’re kidding right? I get the shape shifting part, but me being wanted?” Lacey got up from Sage’s lap, needing to do something; pacing, punching, crying, anything.

“Babe, listen to me. I need to tell you things, important things so I don’t lose you,” Sage got up from the bed also, staying by it to give Lacey some room.

Lacey’s hands went to her head, holding the back of it like you do after a good run and you can’t breathe. She faced the window, looking out of it thinking maybe it would calm her down and breathed. In… Out… In… Out... In… Out…  Listen to what Sage has to say. She won’t hurt me, I know that. Lacey got a hold of herself, slowly but surely and turned around to face Sage. She nodded at Sage as she sat down on the floor, crossing her legs.

“Tell me everything.”
