The Johnson's: The Not So Perfect Family

Chapter 14

Brooklyn is on the way to the office to see Doctor Reids. She was nervous to tell him.  Not knowing how he would react was killing Brooklyn on the inside. She was just getting more and more nervous as she got closer to the office. When she turned to the street that the office was on it was police cars everywhere. When she got to the office she understood why.

Brooklyn got out of her car. She tried to go to the building, but she was stopped before she could get close. Brooklyn turned around and it was the detective that's working on her sister and mom case.

"What is going on?" Brooklyn asked.

“There has been a report filed on someone working in the facility. They are lead to be missing.” a police officer said.

“Brooklyn, I rather tell you what’s going on.” Detective Julie stated as she came out of the building.

“Who is missing? Is it-is it Dr. Reids?” Brooklyn stuttered.

“Yes, it is. He actually was reported missing by his mother Saturday. He hasn’t been seen since after his meetings. You were his first one for the day. So we have to bring you down for questioning. I already called your mother.” Detective Julie opened the door for Brooklyn.

As they drove down to the station Brooklyn mind was racing. A thousand and one thoughts are going through Brooklyn’s head. She has no idea why they would want to speak with her at the station. Especially bringing her mom into it. The last thing she wants is to bring her mom in something after just getting released out of the hospital.

Pulling up to the station was probably the scariest thought. Especially not knowing what is going on. All she wanted to know is if Charles was okay. Her mind was racing in that interrogation room. Sweating from all the nerves. Brooklyn knew she did nothing wrong. It was just the thought of her being there. Especially since her mother hasn't come yet. About ten minutes rolled by and she finally heard her mother’s voice. A peace came over her then

Winter flings the door open. “What is going on Brooklyn?” Winter asked.

“Mom, i swear I don't know.” Brooklyn's voice sounded scared.

“It’s okay baby. We are going to get to the bottom of this.” Winter's voice irritated and annoyed.

Detective Julie came in with a stack of papers. She sits them on the table. Julie sits down and grabs her pen and paper. “Sorry, you guys have to be brought down here. Especially you Winter. I'm going to go as fast as possible.” Julie started.

“Start by telling me what are these papers about?” Winter asked.

“These are the notes Dr. Reids have on all his patients including your daughter. We want to get an insight on what they were talking about at their last visit.” Julie pulled Brooklyn’s file off the stack.

“Are you sure that are supposed to go through that? Isn't that doctor client privacy?” Brooklyn asked.

“Usually it is. Since in this matter the doctor is missing. We are expecting that it is foul play, but we must check thoroughly.” Julie answered.

“Now, it states that you and Reids talked about relationships. You watched a movie on it and gave him your thoughts on it.” Julie pointed out.

“Yes, I actually did,” Brooklyn answered.

Brooklyn knew that Charles just wrote something to make it look good. She knew what really happened that day. Her emotions were running high thinking about it. Brooklyn tried to cover that up. Honestly, she didn't know what she wanted to do. A part of her wanted to tell her secret, but on the other hand, it was hard for her to express.

“The question is that did you see a difference in the doctor that day? Anything that might be considered abnormal for him?” Julie asked.

“He seemed more on edge than usual. I thought that was just part of the job. Like he wasn't getting enough sleep.” Brooklyn answered.

“Are you aware of anything that might had been wrong in his personal life by a chance?” Julie tone shifted slightly.

“No.” Brooklyn stated annoyingly.

“Look, my daughter said she doesn't know anything. Is there something you not telling us?” Winter interrupted.

“That will be all for now. Until this investigation is done, you cannot leave without letting me know. You guys are free to go.” Julie stood up and opened the door.

Winter told Brooklyn to go ahead and get in the car. Cause she was confused in this situation. She wanted to talk to Detective Julie by herself. This whole ordeal is becoming beyond her mental capacity.

“Detective Julie can I speak to you please?” Winter asked.

“We can go into the conference room.” Julie directed the direction.

They go into the conference room and sit at the round table. The room was silent for a brief second.

“Detective Julie what was the purpose of us being here? Is there something that you aren't sharing with me?” Winter asked.

“Winter, we are just following protocol. Your daughter is a client. All of the clients have been interviewed. I know it might be hard. As long as Brooklyn is being completely honest then everything will be okay.” Julie explained.

“Yeah, I guess that makes sense. I hope all this come to an end faster. I'm getting tired of all of this shit.” Winter exhaled.

“I understand Winter. This has been a rough year for you guys. I want the end of this just like the rest of you.” Julie tried to me empathic.

“You don't understand. My kids lives are upside down. My husband is rapist. My 14 year old daughter is pregnant as a result. Brooklyn attitude wants me to knock head off. Monica is numb to everything. So, don't try to put yourself in my shoes.” Winter yelled.

“Winter you are right. I don't understand what you and your girls are going through 100%. I do know the process takes forever. When you get to that sentencing part it is like relieve to start over a new chapter. That I know about. I been a detective for 15 years. Each case is like a new chapter.” Julie explained.

“Just make the process go a little faster my kids sake.” Winter left the room.

Winter played each event over and over again in her head. Dropping more tears as she thought. She knows Detective Julie will finish this, but she wants to make it go faster. Winter doesn't know how much more she can take.
