Diana snatched Anne from Gilbert, leaving the hazel-eyed boy with a quirked brow as his eyes followed the two girls who were heading out for lunch. When the dynamic duo were in private, Diana asked, "So, Anne...You and Gilbert?"

Anne's brows shot up and heat rose to her face, "Wha--No! Diana Barry, what could have put that idea in your head?!" Me and Gilbert?! Never in a lifetime would me and him of all people be an item. Besides, he doesn't even like me. "It wouldn't work out anyway, Ruby has a crush on him and I would never betray her like that."

"That won't matter because she doesn't have a crush on him anymore."

"Then who does she like?"

"I heard that she now has a crush on your farm friend...what was his name? Je--Jerry?"

"Why would Ruby have a crush on Jerry?" The thought of the most perfectly pink girls with him?!"

Diana scoffed, "I think it's adorable, and so should you. Ruby is head over heels for the poor boy." Diana shrugged and went back to her original intentions, "I also think that you and Gilbert would be--how would you say it?-- oh, absolutely scrumptious." She sighed at the thought, if only Anne knew...

Anne narrowed her eyes at her kindred spirit, "Talk to me when you've found some common sense because the words you're saying now are ridiculous!" She got up and stomped back into the classroom once the bell was rung. Diana was left back with a hurt expression and didn't talk for the rest of the day.

Gilbert looked to Anne as she sat next to him, her face tinged pink with some sort of negative emotion he couldn't place. At least it wasn't fiery rage that was aimed at him like that one fateful day. "What are you looking at, Blythe?" Anne snapped.

"It's on a need-to-know basis and you don't need to know," he quipped back with a playful look.

"Well stop it because I need your help with this algebra problem. How do I solve for x here?"

"Well, first we need to..." He continued to explain how and occasionally glanced at Anne to see if she was still following along. A determined look was on her face as she absorbed the information and a small smile filled Gilbert's features. "Here, you try." He scribbled a problem he'd already did a while ago and showed it to Anne. "What do you do first?"

Anne scooted closer to the hazel-eyed boy, making him blush without her realizing. "You have to eliminate this number by doing the opposite, but you have to do it on both sides...right?"

"Correct." He marked it down for her, "Now what?"

"Then you drop this down and divide this on both sides to get x."

"Okay, now what's x?"

"X would equal to...7?"

"Precisely. Nice work, Anne-girl."

Anne raised her brow at the new nickname, "That's the best you've got, Blythe?'

He smiled sheepishly, "It was the next best thing?"

---

Little did the two of them know that Diana and Cole were watching this whole ordeal go down, knowing looks on both of their faces. They knew that Anne and Gilbert were meant for each other--the whole town of Avonlea knew! It seemed that the only ones who didn't know were Anne and Gilbert themselves.
