Sorry I haven't updated in so long :( it's been a busy life for me lol. I normally don't get home till 8pm every week day so I can't really write during the week. And last week I spent all Friday at the hospital (nothing bad, don't worry) and Saturday I was out with family.

Today I had the SAT and finished applying to colleges so that took up a big chunk of the day lol but here it is!

I hope you guys enjoy! And if you can, leave a comment about your thoughts. I love to read opinions :) or a vote.

Also thanks for 100 reads!! That's awesome :) makes me happy. And thank you for the comments and votes.

I lost track of how long I spent crouching in the dark, shivering from the cold concrete pressing against my back. The only thing that kept me in touch reality was the occasional footsteps that echoed over me when a family member walked across the hatch door.

I knew it had to have a while because I could hear my stomach growl loudly, its rumbles were long and embarrassing. I also had to pee.

My arms were wrapped around my knees in attempt to bring warmth back into my cold body. In the summertime, I would normally be sweltering under the heat, but in this cold, dark box I was chilled to the bone.

I was drifting in between consciousness and sleep when I heard the front door slam close. It brought me out of fluctuating slumber, and I snapped straight up to hear what might be going on above. There were heavy footsteps that thumped loudly over me. They passed through the foyer and into the den.

I hadn't heard anything else, like a crash or destruction of property, so I assumed it was Father. It must be around dinner time then.

It surprised me that he was back home so soon. He sometimes didn't come home for a couple days at a time. It must be because he wanted to give the house a more thorough inspection, set up some more of his things in his office.

I wanted to yell up to him, to free me from Mother's punishment, but I didn't want Mother to catch me in the act. I assumed she was in her bedroom like always, but I didn't want to take the chance. She would most likely retaliate in anger because of my request.

So I waited.

I waited a long time. Not once did I hear a question from Father as to where I was. It made me feel a slight twinge deep in my heart, did Father not wonder where I might be?

A sorrowful sigh escaped me. A new home meant new opportunities, but only one day into it I was somehow causing lots of trouble for Mother. I didn't want to disturb her any more than I've already done. The ways she taught me were terrifying, but she said it was the best way for me to learn.

I caught myself drifting in and out of sleep. My head dropped slightly, bumping against my hard knee. A soft snort escaped me, startling me out of the light slumber. I blinked groggily, at first a bit confused as to my current position, then it all came back like a breaking dam.

How long had I been in here?

Anxiety consumed my thoughts when my mind traveled deeper into my dark thoughts. What if both Mother and Marie forgot me in here? And I starved?

I shook my head at the negative thoughts. I wasn't gonna let them control me. Mother will definitely remember I'm in here. She's gonna notice the house is dirtier at some point.

If it could've been possible, I curled myself into a tighter ball. Pressing my chin down on my knees, I felt the bones dig into the soft underside of my chin. I bet it wasn't a degree under sixty-seven, but I felt like it was winter weather. Probably a combination of both the concrete and the darkness.
