We finished the article. I couldn't believe, I had completed my very first article. Mr. White decided our work would be in the front. I was excited to see my name on it. Clark seems to be not surprised. He must be used to it. After all, he is one of the best reporters.
"Will my name be in it?" I asked Mr. White as Clark and him finished discussing.
"I'm sorry, Miss. Brooks, but since you're inexperienced and Clark did most of it, his name will only be shown." He spoke. Disappoint floods in me. Clark glanced at Mr. White when he was not looking.
"Sir, I kindly ask you, she deserve her name on the front page. She worke hard, too." Clark said to Perry. I smiled at Clark even though he wasn't looking at me and thought, he's such a gentleman.
"Mr. Kent, I make the descisons." Perry said firmly, making it obvious there was nothing we can do to change his mind. I sighed.
"I'm sorry, sir." Clark pushes up his glasses and walked out with me trailing behind him.
"I'm sorry, Miss. Brooks. You deserve better." Clark sighed. "I wish I could do more."
"That's alright." I smiled warmly, giving him my forgiveness. Clark smiled saldly.
"Next time, I'll let you do the most part, then maybe you'll get the spotlight." He offered. I frowned. That means I have to interview people.
"What's wrong?" He asked, his tone full of concern. He must care a lot about people I noted. It's obvious one of his qualities.
"It's just that, I don't connect with people very well. I have to interview people, that's what I'm worried about." I sighed.
He looked at me with a confusion on his face. "Then why did you become a reporter? A reporter connect with people, you know. They have to be good with people. Don't get the wrong idea, you're a good writer, but you have to connect with people."
He is really good with words. I stared at him, saying nothing. He waited patiently until I answered. "Well, it's my parents. They're reporters and I wanted to make them proud." I shrugged.
"Ah. But that's what you want?" He asked.
I couldn't say anything. I'm talented at it. I write good. I observe people. I see through lies. But do I want it? I never thought about it before.
"I-I don't k-know." I stumbled over words. "I never thought about it before, I guess."
"You have a opportunity to live. It's once opportunity. Make the best out it. Don't waste it. You're beautiful and talented young woman."
He thought I'm beautiful?
He smiled sadly down at me. He had the most striking blue eyes I had ever seen. I've never noticed before. It had pity in it.
"Ahem." Clark said and I snapped out of it. "Goodbye, Miss. Brooks."
"Yea, bye. Thanks for....the advice." I waved.
