XXIII. DEMON IN THE INSTITUTE

CLARY, ALEC AND MALIA WERE STALKING THROUGH THE STREETS OF NEW YORK, TRYING TO FIND THE DEMONIC CREATURE THAT KILLED A MAN.

They turned down an alley and heard a loud bang. This cause all three of them to whip out their seraph blades.

They walked down the alley slowly, searching for the cause of the sound, It's probably the demon, Malia thought to herself. Malia heard someone's breath trembling. She looked behind a dirty, green bin and saw a woman, no older than 25, clutching her bloodied hand "what happened? Who are you?" she asked, scared. "It's okay, we're here to help" Clary said as she looked at the woman pityingly.

"It's a classic possession hangover" Alec said "once the demon leaves they body, they have no memory of what they did"

"I-Is this blood?" the woman shuddered "just try to keep calm" Malia said. Clary bent down next to the woman "hey, don't look at your hand okay? Just look at me.

The woman was now gasping for breath as she spoke "I don't understand. What's going on?"

"I know nothing makes sense right now. But i'm going to help you" Malia said "we promise" Clary finished. The woman's breathing slowed but it was still heavy as she nodded in agreement.

Sirens were going off all around the institute. Every crowded to the training room. Welki, another shadow hunter, as what happened "classic possession hangover" Clary said "Hole punched right through his chest" Malia said as she turned her nose up at the scent of the blood "just like our mundane in the morgue" Izzy added.

Alec walked over to the dead body and bent down to it "the demon's in the Institute" Alec said.

Lydia was throwing orders around the Institute trying to get things handled. Izzy Malia, Lydia, Clary and Alec were all gearing up "I still don't get how it got into the Institute" Malia said as she tucked a blade into her boot.

"Same way it got in without setting this off" Izzy sighed, gripping her necklace. "It must have some advance cloaking ability" Izzy said "it hid in that dead body and let us do the rest"

"I didn't know demons could do that" Clary said "until now, they couldn't. This new form of possession, cloaking ability, targeting the Institute, it's" Clary cut Alec off "Valentine. His experiments. My mum told me how he was determined to create a super-being that could defeat the clave. it's what he tried to do with Jace.

"Both victims had damage to the prefrontal cortex" Izzy explained "the demon must be feeding on negative emotions.Anger, hate, rage. Causing the host to act violently on those urges"

"So we continued to scan for venom and heat signatures" Alec said "try to narrow down the host before it strikes again"

"Alec, you check the living quarters" Lydia instructed "you three take the utility tunnels" Lydia directed this to Malia, clary and Izzy.

"Demon ichor" Malia said as she scrunched up her nose. Izzy sighed "it's must've come through her after the kill upstairs"

Izzy and clary began talking about clary leaving for Idris. Malia zoned out of the conversation as she didn't want to hear about it. Jocelyn had come to her, asking if she wanted to join them but Malia had politely declined the offer.
