Shattered

The pair of hearts did everything together, and so they shattered that way. Daya's palms began to sweat profusely to match the rate at which her fear swelled. What had she done? Her father was never one to cut off important matters so abruptly; even the Christopher's agreed to the possible engagement's benefits. It seemed so simple, so convenient.

"Daya..." Austin's voice had a crack in it.

Neighbors Aspin and Quishea' had been allies for centuries. The monarchies thrived in eachother's company: Aspin supplied the wine, Quishea' the cheese.

        "Austin..."

When talks of Daya Sachez and Austin Christopher's love spread through their home lands, both kings, Don and Benard, signed the Engagement Act, provided that if any Aspin-Quishea' couple were to marry, the kingdoms shall merge.

She remained calm, however, the stimulant of anxiety continued to rise  in her veins. Austin squeezed her adjoined hand in his.

      "Don, your majesty, I-"

"Oh, quit with the formalities, you know I don't like that, son. Sir is enough."

"Right, sir, surely we can work this out. If I did anything at all to upset you, I promise, I will make it right." Years of practice gave Austin's last sentence power and hope.

"Austin, this is not you or Aspin's fault. It's soley ours."

Daya broke away from her loves hand: "Ours? What do you mean ours?"

"Daya, sweetie, I'm so sorry. King Leon contacted me. He... He wants to marry you."

Her gasp was cut short by sobs. King Leon, now leader of Fashad, had continued to terrorize Quishea' after his father's death. With his assention, the kingdom was twice as strong; and twice as deadly. Insiders knew it could only mean one thing: war. Don had been doing his best to match Fashad's raw power. It was no use, and so there he stood, bargaining his daughter away.

"Dad, dad please, please no. Don't make me marry him! For the love of God, you can't do this!"

     "Daya..."

      "Please.."

She was on the ground, sobbing as her world shattered. Austin wrapped his arms around Daya, and sighed.

"Sir, what if he hurts her?"

"He won't," was Don's abrupt reply.

      "And if he does?"

The king relented for only a split second: "What's one woman to an entire kingdom?"

The faces each selected an emotion: the first took regret, the second, anger. And the third took fear, it's only choice.

The angry one's mouth opened, but it's eyes were focused on the sobbing one bellow: "Everything."

The regretful face did it's due diligence, but only for a moment. It stiffened, the body attached to it turned, and its tounge commanded: "We leave in the morning."

I know this isn't nearly as good as the first part, but I have no clue on how to make it any better. Please, if you have any suggestions let me know! Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks for reading! 💜
