"I was scared..."
"You have no reason to be now."

(Name) (Last Name) and her boyfriend, Jake Muller, didn't have a quote on quote "normal" relationship. It was very uncommon for a duo like such to consider being with one another; in fact, it was abnormal. This wasn't just because of the fact that Jake Muller was a constantly-traveling freedom fighter and post-mercenary, but also because of the fact they were in a long-distance relationship. This meant there was little to no physical contact as is.
It was true, Jake would sometimes try to visit the girl when he had time off; though their meetings would have to be on the down-low and short-lived. There were times when Jake wanted to desperately visit, but his girlfriend would make excuses, because of her extensive social anxiety that she refused to admit she carried. And video chats were only ever available when it was late at night for Jake and early in the mornings for (Name).
But the main factor that made the couple extremely unlikely was this:
(Name) was extremely, inevitably, and undeniably shy.
"You know, (Name)... A little birdie told me that it was your birthday today..." Jake spoke, looking at his girlfriend on the screen of his phone. He had informed his girlfriend prior to their call that he was taking a walk, but that didn't stop him from still ringing her, practically desperate to see her face after some time. To him, it almost seemed as if she was purposefully avoiding his presence, though he never minded it too much; he knew just how attractive he was.
His free hand made way towards the back of his neck, rubbing it sheepishly. (Color) hair covered the young woman's face, as she looked away, trying to avert her gaze away from his toned arm that came into the frame. What made it even more adorable was how Jake could see the pink flush invading her whole face, as she fidgeted anxiously.
"It is... I-I even- Uh, bought some new sweaters... on Amazing..." She sheepishly spoke, her sleeve reaching her face, making Jake snicker in amusement. "M-My... Mom sent me the money for them..."
"Hm. Well, Amazing has some really fast shipping, I got some supplies for one of my recent mission from there." He attempted to make small talk, "Ya know you can even order food on there. It's pretty impressive how technology is nowadays." The most the poor girl could do was stare at his features on her computer screen.
It was impressive how clearly she was able to see the details of his face; the way his eyes looked back into her own with the gentlest of smirks on his rogue-ish features. She could feel her face becoming redder by the second, her heart racing wildly when he cracked a smug smirk at her.
"No cake?" He asked. Her shoulders tensed at this.
"Uh... No, I didn't want to go out... I can't r-really order on my own without... dying a little." She rubbed her arm, Jake giving an understanding nod.
"Well, what kind of cake would you have wanted?"
She thought for a moment, before shrugging. Tracing circles on to her lap, she shook her head, seeing as to how intently he was staring at her. In all honesty, (Name) hadn't really thought about it. The woman was so focused on what she wanted for her birthday to even consider the more physical aspects of it all.
"Strawberry shortcake..."
The silence invaded the space between them. It was then he came to a halt, closing his eyes, which made the introverted girl furrow her eyebrows in confusion.
