End 3rd Year
We've been trying to become Animagi for a year now, and we're getting pretty close. It's been five months since we made the Animagus potion in January and there hasn't been an electrical storm, though I suppose that's to be expected. We recite the incantation every day at sunrise and sundown, as the book instructed, which means we get barely any sleep. It bloody sucks, but it'll be worth it to be able to help Remus when he transforms.
Despite this, I'm really regretting my decision to wake up at dawn every day, as today is the Quidditch finals against Hufflepuff. I begrudgingly leave my bed and change into my chasers uniform, looking over to the three sleeping boys lying peacefully in their beds, that was, until I jumped on Sirius.
"Sirius! Sirius mate come on!" I yell into his ear. "I know you can hear me! Sirius get up its finals today!"
He groans, sending me a glare. A smirk spreads across my face.
The morning progresses with training and drills until 11:45, 15 minutes before the game. I walk off the pitch to get ready, breathing in the cool air, when a particular redhead caught my eye.
"Hey Potter!" My eyes glue to her lips, her bright smile disorienting me. I couldn't move as she approached, looking beautiful as always.
"Good luck for the game today! We're counting on a win for Gryffindor," she says.
"O-okay, I- yep" I stutter, a blush engulfing my face.
Sirius starts to laugh before I send him a pleading look.
"You can count on it Evans!" Sirius adds through rough giggles, I send him a grateful smile, I can't get three words out around Lily.
She grins. "Good luck," she adds in a quieter tone, nudging me before walking over to where Severus is sneering at us.
It takes me a second to recognize what just happened, before I mumble to Sirius, "Did she just, talk to me?"
Sirius smirks at me. "It's your lucky day James. Now come on! We really should get to the pitch the game starts in like-" he looks down to his wrist, at his watch, "Shit It starts in 2 minutes!"
Running to the pitch in our respective uniforms, I couldn't help the goofy grin from appearing on my face. Lily Evans had spoken to me. What a day.
The game hadn't been as lucky as they had hoped, with Hufflepuff leading by 5 points, as I get the quaffle through the hoop, things may be looking up for Gryffindor. I sure hope so, I promised Lily, or at least Sirius did.
As I celebrate the ten points that just put us ahead, a see Remus and Peter in the crowd waving cheerfully to us, I wave back. Then my eyes come to a particular Gryffindor girl, who seems to be very excited about the points I just won. I smile and wave to the crowd, completely unaware of the bludger heading for the back of my head.
It wasn't until I woke up an hour later that I registered what had happened.
~
I open my eyes to see Remus and Peter standing over me, and with a large noise, Sirius joined them,
"What happened?" I said rubbing the now prominent egg on my head.
Sirius starts cracking up, and I glare at him.
"What did I do?" I frown.
"You-" he laughs, "Were too busy admiring Evans that you forgot about the game."
He bends over, holding his stomach, laughing yet again.
"A bludger hit you right in the head," Remus clarified, a smirk tugging on his lips.
Well, that explains the egg. Good thing they taste good.
"You were lucky-" he continues, "That you weren't too high up. If so, you would have had more issues than a bump to the head."
I force a smile despite an oncoming headache.
"Sirius! How'd the game turn out?" I suddenly remember.
He smiles brightly. "Beat 'em by 10 points!"
A grin immediately appeared on my face, this means Gryffindor wins the house cup! Too bad, Slytherin suckers! I high-five Sirius with all my strength, making my headache 10 times worse.
"This calls for some celebration! Whose up to snatch some butterbeers off the house-elves?" I say.
Sirius' face lights up, and he opens his mouth in agreement. Then he freezes. I turn around.
"Unfortunately you will not be participating in such activity tonight," the stern lady says.
I groan. "Madame Pomfrey!"
BANG! We all jump, and Madame Pomfrey drops her medicine tray. The door shoots open and Lily stomps in, her windswept hair settling down in the breezeless room. She sweeps the red mess over her shoulder and jogs over to us. She whips out her wand. "Episkey," she says. I raise my hand to my cheek, finding the small scratch on my cheek gone. "What were you thinking, you buffoon? Next time keep your eyes on the game! Good job, Black," she finishes and leaves the room, simultaneously smirking and rolling her eyes.
Shit. Evans is just... Wow. Her soft laugh, her fiery red hair, those beautiful green eyes. Always top of the class, hilarious too. Just as I'm imagining every single amazing thing about her, Sirius swims into my view.
"JAMES! Earth to James!" he says, waving his hand in front of my eyes. I blink. Whenever Evans is around it's like I have entered a whirlwind; nothing outside matters. Sirius is laughing his head off.
"Mate, jeez, two large interactions with Evans is just too much for you!" he chokes. Remus is shaking his head, trying to hide a smile. Peter is looking confused, as usual. Madame Pomfrey bobs over.
"Ah... young love..." she says, and Sirius snorts. She gives him an indignant look, continuing, "Is not allowed in the sickbay. Off you go!" I scramble off the bed and we head off together to the Gryffindor tower, arms around each other's shoulders.
