Thanks.

It was a simple sign from Roman to Virgil. Virgil had defended him and his intelligence in class when the teacher had called him out even though Roman thought the emo hated him. He wouldn't doubt the hate, he made fun of Virgil constantly throughout the year. He didn't deserve what he had gotten in return, which was a smart response to defend his honor.

Roman had been doodling in class like he normally did to help him listen. It had been proven before that if he didn't do that it was very hard to concentrate and since he couldn't speak yet, it was hard to communicate to teachers if he was confused or not.

He wasn't alone, most students couldn't speak yet. They hadn't found their soulmate yet.

There were the lucky few that had met theirs at some point in their childhood or just recently in the high school they were currently at. All you had to do was touch your soulmate, then both you and them could speak. For now they were mute and resorted to sign language.

"Roman, stop doodling. You're distracting the classroom." Roman froze at the coldness of the tone. He rose his hands to defend himself.

Sir it helps me pay-

"Did I allow you to speak?" The teacher asked and rose an eyebrow. His foot twitched and started tapping on the ground furiously. Anything that had been making noise in the room was suddenly quiet. All eyes were either on Roman or the teacher.

Roman put his hands down in defeat.

"Yes Virgil?" The teacher had called on the quiet kid in the back who almost never spoke up, so most eyes were wide and on him.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but Roman can't speak, therefore you cannot tell him to not speak. He signed. Thank you for your time.

Many students hid their amused smiles behind their books. Virgil, however, let his smug smile reach across the room to the red faced teacher.

"Don't be smart with me young man." The teacher warned, fiddling the marker he had in his hands. His foot tapping got louder and faster and it was all he could do to not blow up. He was very irritable today, wasn't he?
Virgil signed back a response quickly, keeping the smug smile on his face.

I thought I was supposed to be smart in school.

The one or two people capable of speaking in the class snorted, while the others either smacked the table to control themselves or let their smiles grow even wider.

"Virgil Valkrum, I will not hesitate to send you to the office."

Dude that's my favorite show, go for it.

"Out!" He screeched, why was he so angry?! Thinking about it, did someone like him even have a soulmate?

Roman stared at the emo nightmare as he walked out, a satisfied but evil smirk resting on his face. He stole look at Roman in time to see him sign a thanks and looked away after nodding quickly and burning a bright pink.

Logan, you saw it though, right?!

"Yes, I did see it Roman, although it was distracting, it was nice to see that teacher getting put in his place. He has certainly done worse in the past though." Logan sighed as he took his apple from his tray and kept his eyes buried in his book.
