"Why are you late?"
"Got lost. Had to battle a dragon."
I stared at him wildly. If the grime and blood on his clothes hadn't spoken for him, his voice surely did. It was rough, like he had been screaming for hours.
I couldn't believe him though. I had been stood up a few hours too late on our pasta date only from him to come up with a story that couldn't be true. Dragons don't exist.
His smoky but putrid smell go worse as he came closer. I took a couple steps back.
"No really! I fought a dragon!" Roman smiled widely, bringing his hands up to his face. One of them held a sword that I never remembered him having and I inwardly panicked when the blade swung a few centimeters too close his ear for comfort.
"Roman, I'm not sure what delusion you're under, but you should really lie down to obtain maximum mental health." I took his arm but he wriggled it out of my grasp. He shook his head.
"Logan!" Roman laughed. "I swear I did! I can prove it!" Everything about his mannerisms irked me in the wrong way, but how could it be right with soot and blood smudged all over his face? Even then, it was pitch black outside, and almost time to head for bed.
"Roman, it is time you head home. Please do, you seem tired." I narrowed my eyes in attempt to look intimidating. It's hard when you're a full foot shorter than the other.
"Oh come on Read-It-Ralph! I promise it's worth it." Roman smiled, and suddenly I couldn't say no anymore which is why when he grabbed my arm I begrudgingly followed behind, making sure to lock the door before submissing.
Roman led me into the woods for a while, giggling excitedly every so often. I stayed silent for the most part, though I asked a few questions every now and then. He'd answer honestly as he could given the current situation.
Roman finally ushered me into a clearing, but before I could focus on the dead body in front of me, I was pinned to a tree. One of his hands was around my neck while the sword he had was pressed firmly against my cheek. I could feel the sting of it digging into my face as I gasped for air but I could never find any.
I looked at Roman, who had a wide smile on his face. He giggled again, but this time in context, it made sense.
"You were right mi amor," he smiled wider as my vision blurred and started to fade. He leant up to my ear.
"Time to go to sleep."
