I sit up, startling Max and Ethan as they stand by my bedside. I looked over at them “how long have I been out?” I ask curiously “ 3½ days” Max answers. “3½ days!” as say out loud. Have I really been asleep for that long? I ask myself. But just looking at Max answers my question
Paige has finally woke up after so long. It’s amazing how time seems to stand still when you're waiting for your best friend to come out of her unconscious state. I look at her checking for damage. Everything looked okay but the leg wound she had gained from the museum incident
I try to get up then the pain comes back to remind me about me leg so I stay seated as Max gives me explanations for all of my questions. It felt good to be back and awake but then I remember what had really happened in the museum and my mood went rotten. I got up fighting through the pain and limped over to the bathroom and washed my face and brushed my teeth and slowly sat back down on my bed and looked up at the ceiling and groaned to myself.
After telling Paige about what happened well she was unconscious she went into the bathroom to clean up. Well she was in there Ethan came up to me with a plate of food “Here” he said “you haven't eaten for 2 days.” I took the food with a smile on my face “Thanks” I replied. Paige came out and took a look at us and a fake smile spread across her face “ So this is your new best friend huh?” she said her voice filled with venom.
“ It’s not like that!” Max shouts after me. “But it is, we both know that unless you're completely unaware of anything that has happened the past few days!” I shout back at her. She stared daggers at me but I just ignored her. “You're being childish. You know that you're stupid death stare doesn't affect me.” she turns her gaze away. “Whatever. Like your less childish than me. You overreact on anything and everything.” I just glared.
Paige stood there glaring at me and said “Well at least I wouldn’t leave you behind and act like nothing ever happened!” And that's what ends our conversation. I had nothing to say to that because it’s true, Paige would never have done what I had. She never would have left me all alone and scared and if she did I don’t think I would have forgiven her as quickly as she did and I realize how sorry I really was and walked up to her and gave her a hug so tight she could barely talk when she told me she couldn’t breath. I pull away and hold her by her shoulders to examine her emotion but I could hardly see through the tears of joy streaking down my face.
Max and I are crying as every bit of realization hits us. Ethan walks in with a concerned look on his face and just walks right back the way he came and seeing that look on his face had left a permanent smile on mine. I look back over to Max and tell her how sorry I am and that her dagger stare is actually very scary and that makes her laugh which makes me laugh and soon were just two normal girls laughing so hard that we're crying and that is what truly made that day one of the best in my life...
