I’m sitting there holding Destiny’s pale body in my arms tears streaking both of our faces. I want to help but I know there's no hope. I clench her hand in mine as she takes her last precious breath, and whispers in a small dull voice “good bye” I cry as I hold her lifeless body taking both of her hands and holding them tight. And again I feel like the little girl i’ve alway been, standing alone in the streets with no one but myself. I’m her again, the small grimey little girl, the girl that doesn't have a home the girl nobody loves and nobody ever will. Then it hits me, Destiny's really gone and she's never coming back never going to have a chance at a normal life and it's all because of delta.
We start cleaning up the mess that was made. I try to keep my mind off of the broken girl that was once a nurturing person lying on the floor. All the memories come flooding back. Everything we've been through, good or bad was still painful to remember. I was mad at Ethan but I was even more disappointed in myself for letting everything happen. I know he was just trying to keep people from getting hurt but what about Destiny did she not matter any more to him, Max or even me? That is the question nagging in the pit of my stomach. How could I let this happen to someone I loved like family, to someone who loved me like family?
I stop cleaning and knelt down beside Destiny. She looked so at peace so calm as if she had died a painless death. I wish I didn’t feel so bad about this especially after all the things she has done to me. Having her leave was one thing but this, her being my enemy and that horrible death that is completely another thing, and I couldn't stand it. I stare into her dull eyes and feel nothing but pain.
I see something from the corner of my eye it’s the arrow head that had impaled her only a hour ago, the arrow that had fatally wounded her, the one that cost her her life. I pick it up carefully by the small piece of shaft that is left and hold it in my hand the blood that was once soaking the floor now dry and brownish.
I look over at Ethan. He and Max are in the middle of a conversation not one filled with hate and nasty words like usual but one full of compliments and happiness. I walk over to Max to tell her we should leave before the workers get here but as I speak no one listens to me she’s too deep in her own words to hear me. Ethan gets up and walks toward her but I stand right in the way he already killed Destiny I don't need him hurting Max in any way. He looks at me then at Max and they have a silent conversation.
I look at Max and she clears her throat and says “ I think Ethan should come with us.” i'm shocked my jaw drops so far it feels like it could unhinge. “What! Are you crazy he killed Destiny and you really want him to come with us?” Max looks pained but only for a second. “Yes I think he should come! He ended delta with the loss of one life if Destiny were still here there could be thousands gone!” I look at her the tears in my eyes threatening to fall. I turn so I don't have to face her ‘Fine.” I say and I walk back to Destiny and get my things so we can leave.
I was in a rush to get out this place I was packing my things and cleaning up as fast as I could I had to leave and at this point I don’t care who comes with me. I start walking toward the hallway we had went through earlier. Max walks up to me but I push her away so she follows behind with Ethan.
I walk towards wall where the window sits and turn to look at Max. she had the shield in hand and was ready to go then realize I dropped the arrow so I had to run back to find it quickly. I look around frantically for it. Finally I spot something reddish-green and reach for it but it's not what I thought it was.
An alarm starts to blair I bolted back to the hall where Max and Ethan were waiting for me and we all ran through the maze of halls to get out of this place. I was stumbling barley on my feet but still standing. I was so tired from our nightly adventure that I was careless enough to trigger an alarm and now we all had to pay for my mistake.
