I had just enough time to slip back in front of Dean's consciousness before Sherrif Jodie Mills burst in through the door, flanked by Donna, Doug, Alex and, of course, Claire.
"Hi boys!" Greeted Jodie, surprisingly genially considering the cargo she and her colleagues were carrying. "I hope you don't mind that I brought the cavalry along, sounded as though you might appreciate some extra help."
"Hi Jodie long time no see, and thanks so much."
"Heya Sam!" Donna called, squeezing Sam into a bear hug. "So good to see ya."
Doug suddenly looked on, extremely confused..."These are your cousins, the FBI agents?"
Sam jumped on the chance to find an appropriate lie. "We're conducting a special undercover investigation into the murders of virgins throughout the local area."
"Oh I see." Chimed Doug, apparently satisfied with this explanation, though he did seem distant.
That was when Claire spoke up suddenly. "Hey Dean! What's up? You seem awfully tense all of a sudden?"
I froze, unable to bring a single word from the tip of my tongue. I looked frantically to Sam, afraid to open my mouth for fear of saying something that would arouse suspicion. "I...I'm fine Claire, just a little out of sorts." I say, praying to my Father that it sounded even vaguely like Dean, but doubting furiously.
"Say, how's that Angel friend of yours doing? Casteel?" Chimmed Donna
"Castiel." Sam corrected, carefully; he threw an involuntary half glance my way, but then quickly averted his eyes, but by that point it was too late, my cover was blown. Sam looked at the floor in shame, "He is well, I believe."
"And actually, that's what we asked you here for, you see, Cas, he..."
"He's got himself into a spot of trouble, and you see we offered to help him, his human vessel was blown out of shape, and he needed a new one so..." Another plane my way, a little less involuntary this time...
Claire was, of course, the first to twig what the look meant, her eyes widened in shock when she realised. "Oh my god! That's Castiel?!"
Sam nodded a reply
"That's so weird."
"Tell me about it." Suddenly it seemed like the whole room jumped, like every one offs had received a tiny electric shock as, one by one, all of us realised that it was no longer Castiel talking. "Alright, so I guess we better start with step one, I suppose I'll see you round Cas?"
"Of course, Dean." Cas replied, Dean's eyes rolling back for one more sudden change as he drew Dean's knife from his jacket pocket and brought it to his neck.
"Would one of you do me a favour and catch me when I fall?"
