#PorRocxcc [Platonic or romantic] contest entry on amino. Late. Unfinished. Character assigned for contest: Kinkade

Published On: February. 2, 2019

Ryan Kinkade is known for being quiet. Even after the war he's rarely talked. He still responds with grunts or nods. Overall, he's pretty silent. Though, he talks with Lance a lot more than he does his actual team. The two of them were currently walking along a stone path in the garden that had just been planted. The flowers there were just breathtaking. It ranged from daisys, to poppies, and all the way to periwinkles.

Kinkade had strung his camera around his neck, hoping to at least get a good picture in before it starts raining. He held it up, seeing a particularly beautiful flower.

Lance was scrambling to get out of the pathway. He stumbled into a patch of multicolored roses with thorns on them. Why was he scrambling to get out of the way though?

"HIDEKI HIKARU I SWEAR- GIVE THAT BACK-", yelled a female's voice.

"NEVER-"

Kinkade flinched at the yelling. It had startled him, and made the last picture he took blurry. The dark skinned male looked over to see where the yelling had come from.

A boy, no older than at least twelve, had sped past him, holding something that looked like a small computer. The young woman who was chasing him slowed to a stop, right in front of Kinkade. She was breathing heavily with her hands on her knees, and erupted into a fit of coughs. She looked familiar......

"Amai?", Lance called out after getting himself out of the rose patch. "I thought the doctor said you were supposed to be resting and recovering from the heart attack you got last week."

"I-...", the woman, or Amai said breathlessly. "I'm supposed to... but... freaking... HIDEKI over here... decides to get into my stuff-", she coughed for a bit. Lance pat her shoulder twice, and began walking towards Hideki's hiding place.

"I'll get him for ya-", he said to Amai, giving a wink at Kinkade, whom gave him a confused look. Before, Lance had noticed a tiny spark in Kinkade's eyes as he looked at Amai. Lance knew that spark all to well. It was "love at first sight", in Lance's eyes, so he left them both alone, trekking after the trouble making yet exuberant Hikaru.

"Uh...", Kinkade didn't know what to say to the periwinkle colored hair woman in front of him. He just stayed silent, hoping she'd get up and leave.

But that didn't exactly happen.

Amai got up, and looked at Kinkade for a long moment, before putting her hand out for him to shake, not qanting this to be awkward. "Uh... Hi-... I'm Amai. I work with the paladins.."

Ooohhh... that's where he knew her from. The Voltron team.

She was the Ekko hybrid..

After a few awkward minutes of silence, Kinkade broke it. He took her hand in his, and shook it slightly.

"I'm Ryan Kinkade..", he said back, quietly. Amai smiled up at him.

"Nice to meet you."

Over the course of the next few weeks - no, months - Kinkade and Amai hung out with each other every so often. Not many words were spoken, but there was no need for any. It was as if they formed some sort of bond, and it seemed unbreakable. Each day felt like nothing was wrong between them. No awkwardness or shyness at all. Today, however, was oddly different.

It started off badly. Amai was in the hospital again, and Kinkade was running late for training.

Amai was supposed to be getting a small checkup, but she had gotten into a bad car accident. It was supposedly fatal. Well, for the other person in the crash. Amai had escaped from her car, and tried to get the other person out of theirs; but she couldn't, because the other vehicle had burst aflame before she could take one step closer.

When Kinkade was stuck in the traffic of people at the garrison, he had heard about the crash. Fear struck him like an odd pang in his heart, and his stomach dropped. Was she ok? He needed to know. He stayed rooted in his spot, staring at the ground, running through what he wanted to do in his mind. His jaw had clenched; a common thing he'd do in tough situations.

He wasn't brought out of his thoughts until he heard a quick tampering of a few pairs of feet behind him, and familiar voices talking in a rushed way.

"... So you're saying that she threw a fit because she wanted to be in the Garrison's hospital and not the towns hospital?", someone asked, as if they were skeptical of that information.

"Yes, Keith, that's what I said-", said another /younger/ voice. "Well, not exactly what I said, but still. You know how picky she is with this medical stuff. She only trusts the Garrison's hospital."

"I'm guessing that you're picking her up?", asked Keith. By then, unbeknownst to the team, Kinkade had been walking beside them. It was three of the paladins; Lance, Katie(or Pidge, as she likes to be called), and Keith.

"Not just me, Lance is too. He flies the fastest lion. The faster we get there, the sooner Amai gets healed."

Around fifteen minutes later, Ryan found himself in a small crowd of people outside of the Garrison where all the voltron lions were stationed. Among those people around him was his team, and a few of the professors and a few aliens that teach in the Garrison's school. They were waiting for the return of the Red lion.

One of the aliens had particularly stood out to Kinkade. It had abnormally long elf ears, which had patterns of markings that bore the color orange. This alien was shorter than most of the persons around them, and it's short hair was oddly colored; a lot like Amai's hair. Then it struck him - this was one of the Ekko aliens, known for their powers of sound and expert hearing. It must've been one of the medics.

The Ekko's ears twitched, and it looked up into the cloudy, yet bright, crystal blue sky. The was a speck of red speeding right towards them, which only meant one thing: Lance, Pidge and Amai were back.

Once they had landed and began walking down Red's ramp, a blur of a small, light purple haired boy ran up to Amai's hurt form and hugged her tightly. Amai winced in pain, and mumbled something that was inaudible for Kinkade to hear, given the distance he was away from her. He looked at her more closely as she staggered closer with the help of the two paladins.

Amai had small cuts littering her body, along with a shimmer of pieces of glass from the now broken windows of her car. A bit of her clothes were singed, from being a bit too close to the fires that were lit from the cars. She looked disoriented, and dazed. Almost... regretful, in Kinkade's eyes.

Once the three - who were followed by three people, seeming to be Amai's family - got close to the group, the Ekko joined them. It walked near Amai and asked her a few questions before nodding and writing something down on a notepad (that had somehow appeared out of thin air).

Kinkade had the urge to follow them, but he didn't. He chose to give the Hikaru family a bit of space while he thought of something to do to cheer Amai up. He went to the garrison hospital's little gift shop, and spotted a bouqet of flowers. Or, to be more specific, a bouqet of periwinkles. The only one.
