It's Monday morning, it was still a little chilly outside after the rain of the previous night. My eyelids feels very heavy, probably from twisting and turning the entire night, my mind has been preoccupied since finding out my dear husband won't be able to accompany me anymore, I'm still contemplating whether to go to our reunion or not!
"I can't risk arriving at the reunion on my own bumping into my ghost of Christmas past?" I can just picture the stupid look i'll have on my face when I see him, having Dave there would've made things a whole lot easier.
"Oh my God, the event is this coming Friday, I can't cancel at the last minute? "What about Matty? She really looked forward on us being there!"
"Oh Jasmine, you're in deep shit woman!!"I debated with myself for a while whilst trying to figure out my next step, and then a sudden wave of confidence flooded over me:
"You're a grown ass woman and are fully capable of handling yourself, you're not going to allow a crush of two decades ago overpower you, you're going to that reunion and you're going to enjoy yourself, period!!!
Just then my phone rings, it's Matty....
"Hey Matts" I answered
"Hey Jaz, how are you, sorry to hear Dave won't make it anymore, but don't worry, I will borrow John's other arm to you for that evening" she said, trying to make me feel better.
"Thanks Matty, I'll be fine, but thanks for the offer"We spoke for a while about our kids and school and eventually hang up.
For some reason the week went by extremely fast, when I opened my eyes again it was Thursday, nerves have been cooking in my stomach since, but I've been keeping my cool.I've decided to go to gym, from then do a few groceries needed for the restaurant and then head straight home. An early night was just what I needed, "You don't want to wake up with bags under your eyes now, do yah" I told myself.
I took a little body relaxing sleeping pill and called it a night.****************************
When I opened my eyes again, it was Friday morning and I was greeted with a bright sunlight coming through my window. "Well it looks like it's going to be a beautiful day today" i said. Matty and myself decided to take the day off to pamper ourselves a bit; we have manicures, pedi's and a date with the hair salon lined up, we wanted to look our best for the evening.Dave had to fly out early in the morning for his important meeting, and is expected back the next Monday. I dropped the kids at school, but we planned they stay the weekend at Dave's parents since I'm also taking a flight back home, the reunion was at our old school.
Our flight was scheduled for 1 pm, it was a 2 hour flight back, we should land around 4pm which give me some time to catch up with my mom before the event starts by 7pm.
We landed and was picked up by my mother, who was over the moon to see her daughter after a long time; I have not been home in 2 years. We went out for lunch with Matty and her husband John, and got ready for the evening.
It was 6pm in the evening and we headed out to our old school. Upon arrival we are greeted by the planning committee, received names cards to make it easier to remember everyone and was ushered inside. The hall that we previously attended assemblies in as kids, was beautifully decorated, tables settings was lovely with black and white as decor, making me feel happy having my black dress on, I fitted right in, lanterns was hanging from the ceiling and soft ochestrial music was playing in the background. It's been so many years, I barely remembered some of my old classmates faces, some was slim, athletic, others you can say somewhat chubby, I found it fascinating how much people can change over a period of time. We started chatting with the one's we remembered, I enjoyed myself very much. I scouted the room a few times trying to see if he was there, but there was no sign of him insight, a feeling of disappointment came over me, but I continued as if nothing was wrong.
While talking to Mason, my first boyfriend from back then, and his wife, I was greeted with an unfamiliar voice from behind me, I did'nt recognized it, but the presence, I could never forget that presence; I knew it was him, I could feel it, I froze on the spot, I took a breath of fresh air, compose myself and turned around slowly.....
There he was, very handsomely dressed, standing in front of me, smiling.......
