Unrequited

He loved her more than words could say

Loved her more than any picture could paint

Loved her when her skies had been washed red

What he felt for her had been unrestrained

Through the years, he held her hand

Through the years, he refused to let go

Through the years she's been the light of his world,

The heat that melted away the snow

Yet love is sometimes a one-sided thing,

Uncontrollable, it's just how it is

And even when he broke entry into her heart

What isn't meant to be, will never be his

So when she found somebody new

He hid it all and threw the key

Despite the padlock, the dreams remained

But a heart never meant to be his, he will never attain
