Chapter Three - Rush of Memories
Nasuada squealed in excitement as her mirror returned to showing nothing but her own reflection. Eragon was coming! Despite all that was happening, she felt happy. She loved the Rider like a brother, and missed him dearly. She felt satisfied; she knew he would have been training, and had full confidence in him. She barely felt the need to worry.
She left the room and almost walked straight into her butler, Olsent. The older man quickly dodged her and lifted his empty tray above her head so as to avoid bumping her with it. She smiled gratefully at him.
"Excited, My Lady?" he asked, a glint of humour in his eyes. She laughed.
"Eragon is coming!" she exclaimed happily. He smiled.
"Well, there is no need to worry, then, is there?"
Nasuada nodded and laughed happily, then continued on her way. She had to find Roran and Katrina, to tell them the good news. She went down to the large doors and exited quickly, before one of her guards saw her and insisted on coming along. She really did hate her lack of privacy, though she knew the protection was compulsary, due to her being Queen.
She walked through the cobbled streets of Ilirea and smiled at all those who greeted her. She enjoyed being Queen; although it came with much stress and worries, she was glad that the people treated her with respect, but also with kindness. She was glad she could walk the streets alone and not get followed or surrounded, but she was well aware that no one would cross the line with her. She was Alagaesia's idea of a perfect ruler.
She reached the warrior's family home and knocked on the door. The house was fairly large; Nasuada had, of course, offered them a place in the palace, but Katrina didn't want to raise her child there, as it could be a dangerous place, and was certainly no place to raise a child. So, in return for Roran's part in helping what was once the Varden, she had given them as nice a house as she could find. They had denied taking one of the nobles' houses, and so the Queen had been forced to give them a petite cottage located on a quiet street. It was, admittedly, a perfect place to raise a child.
"Nasuada!" Katrina gasped and gestured for her to enter. She was as beautiful as ever, and was wearing a floor-length blue dress, which brought out the colour in her eyes.
"Sorry to turn up unannounced," Nasuada smiled. Katrina tutted.
"No need to apologise; you know we love seeing you!"
She was shown in and her eyes took in the sight of the room before her. The door led straight to the fairly large sitting room. The ceiling was low and all walls were a creamy-white colour. On the far wall was a stone fireplace, with orange flames licking the logs inside. The room was well-furnished; to the right of the door was a pretty light-brown woven bench with hand-made red cushions dotted along its length. There was a variety of other little seats - stools and such-like - and a huge oak table at the back of the room, which was surrounded by stools of the same colour. Upon said table were some threads, needles a half-made scarf.
Roran appeared in the doorway to the kitchen and smiled warmly when he saw who the visitor was. He greeted her in the same manner as his wife, and leaned against the door frame.
"I am so terribly sorry to turn up like this, but I have some brilliant news." The Queen beamed, and the couple shared a curious glance.
"We should perhaps wait for Ismira," Roran suggested. Nasuada cocked her head to the side slightly.
"What, exactly, is she doing?"
Katrina cleared her throat. "She went off with a boy... Molesion, his name was, I do believe."
