All I know is that I'm unnoticed and I like it that way. I'm a plain, dull girl. My long brown hair is always up in a boring ponytail and my clothes aren’t from Aéropostale or Hollister. More or less I don't buy name brand clothes. I find it a waste of money. Just then I felt me slam into somebody’s body.
Great, I had bumped into somebody. I looked up startled and began to say sorry but a hand quickly grabbed me.
"We are so sorry, she didn't mean to. We will be on our way," my best friend said hurriedly.
"What was that for Ali?" I questioned, confused.
"What do you mean? That was Raurke. He is the delinquent, remember?! Just transferred??"
I looked over at his direction and I saw he was glaring at me. I stared at him awkwardly for a minute before turning my attention back to Ali.
"He just looks like an emo kid to me."
I took another glance at him. He is wearing a 'Black Veil Brides' t-shirt (Why would brides wear black?), stark-white skinny jeans (Why would a boy want to wear skinny jeans, anyways?), and some stereotypical black and white Converse sneakers. His hair was black as a raven’s feathers and his skin was a smooth olive color. All of a sudden I felt a hand roughly jerk my head away from his direction.
"NEVER look in his direction! That a big no-no! You are just begging for trouble." Ali screeched.
"Ok, ok, I get it. Geez. No need to get your bubbles popped.” And over an emo delinquent boy, I thought.
"Daisy, you don't get it! It's not just me who is afraid of him; it’s everyone except his posse over there."
“Alright…” I said with a raised eyebrow. “He’s the one in our government class, right?”
"Yes, he's the one who never answers any of the questions and goes to sleep the entire time,” my friend sighed, annoyed.
I nodded my head in disappointment. He could do better than sleep in class.
"DAISY!!! ALI!!" a familiar male voice yelled from behind us. We both turned around and saw our classmate Simon running up to us, smiling broadly.
"Are guys ready for the three day trip to D.C.?" he said excitedly.
"No, not really,” I said, looking oddly at him. “We already went there 8th grade year, so why would you be excited to be going again? We have to do a report on the museum we liked the most how is that editing?"
Simon opened his mouth and then shut it, not finding the words as he glared at us. Ali and I both chuckled as the bell rang. All the 10th graders grabbed their luggage and headed for their first period class, which happened to be government, one that us 3 share. Simon, Ali and I all started for Miss. Kincaid’s class room. We all took our seats. I normally sit in the outside row, so I did so, and before Ali could plop next to me a dark figure stepped in front of her noiselessly and loomed over her. She squealed in fright, immediately making me look up and see what was wrong. There I saw Raurke- the Raurke who I had plowed into just minutes earlier- standing there, hovering over the desk where Ali normally sits. He smiled mischievously down at me and tilted his head, while revealing pearly white teeth. He asked calmly, "Do you mind if I sit here? I like a little bit of a change here and there."
I looked up at Ali with wide eyes. She shook her head furiously and waved her hands in a 'don't count me in' motion. Raurke looked at where I was gawking and then whispered, “Looks like your friend doesn't mind."
"I don't mind," I said, slightly confused and annoyed at Ali. I looked at Ali sitting by Simon when she mouthed 'sorry' to me. I just gave her the look. You know, the one you give when your best friend yells at you for looking at someone and then lets that same someone sit next to you. She shrugged with an apologetic look on her face, turning back to the front as Miss. Kincaid walked into the room and set papers down on her desk.
Miss. Kincaid began to speak. "I have chosen partners for you for the trip. If either one of you need to go somewhere at any time, take your partner with you. It is best you keep with the buddy system here."
With that she began to list the names of the partners. When she got to Ali's name, we both perked up and looked at each other hopefully.
"Ali, you and Simon are partners." My hope had flown out window. Bye-bye fun, so long. It was a pleasure to have you stay. As my face fell, I thought, now how am I supposed to have fun without my best friend by my side on this trip?
Miss Kincaid called, "Daisy, you are with..." she paused, looking down the list. “You are with Raurke!" she said finally.
I was sorting through my surprise and utter confusion (with probably the stupidest look on my face) when Raurke spoke. He leaned down and whispered in my ear, "Hey partner, how you doin'? I look forward to being with you."
My heart sank in bitter disappointment. This day could not get any worse- not paired with my best friend on a huge school trip is horrible, but being paired with Raurke instead? After all I’ve heard about him? I looked pointedly down at my desk while in my peripheral vision I could see him leaning back in his chair, cheekily smiling while waving. I slammed my head on the desk and sighed.
