I barely got any sleep because of two reasons:
1. My face still hurt from a few hours ago.
2. I kept wondering about how oddly nice Raurke was to me after the slapping incident.
So yeah, I didn't sleep a wink last night. I was afraid I might have a nightmare about the two boys beating me up. I won't lie, I was scared as hell. And as much as I don't want to admit it, I am glad that the ass hat rescued me.
Ali came up to me while I was trying to hide the bruises on my cheeks with foundation in the morning, but of course she noticed. Best friend instincts, I guess.
"Oh my god, Daisy, what did you do?" Ali screeched, horrified. "It looks like you got in a fight with the biggest, toughest guy in D.C.,"
"It's nothing," I said, faking embarrassment. "Just fell off the bed. Guess I'm good at landing on my face and banging the nightstand on the way down," I had not forgotten Raurke's warning from last night, and I just wanted to forget the whole incident in general. Ali just shook her head and rolled her eyes, stretching her arms to the ceiling. Her long blonde hair was all messy from the night's rest, her baggy sweatpants low on her waist. Her shirt rode up to reveal her bellybutton, and also a surprising addition.
"Oh my gosh, Ali, and you were yelling at me! You got your bellybutton pierced?" I shrieked, wondering why she didn't tell me. "I would of never believed your mom would of let you do that," I said, shocked.
"Oh, yeah," Ali replied sheepishly. "It's sorta a secret. My mom doesn't know I have it, I did it on my own," she said, cheeks tinged pink.
We finished getting ready, chattering about the coming day as we went about our hotel room. Ali and I grabbed our room keys and headed for the elevator, ready to get some breakfast. On our way, the two boys from last night almost bumped into me, heading for the elevator also. They looked at me wide eyed and said, "S-sorry" and walked away quickly, making a beeline for the stairs. Ali looked at me perplexed and said, "What was that all about?"
I mirrored her and gave a perplexed look, saying, "I'm not sure!" The elevator dinged and opened its doors, spilling out some of our classmates who were coming back from breakfast. We quickly went around them and got in, cuz I wasn't waiting much longer. I was starving. As the doors started to shut I heard some footsteps rush around the corner. Suddenly, a tall figure came into the view of the slowly closing doors. Of all the people who could be rushing for the elevator, it had to be him. Yep, Raurke had just caught the elevator before it shut and slid inside.
Smoothly, Raurke slipped beside me, looking forward with a small smile on his face. On my other side, Ali was softly hyperventilating, a look of panic on her face and she pointedly ignored Raurke. He looked sideways at me and gave me a sly smile. Slowly, he slumped onto me, leaning all his weight on me, like I was his frickin' chair or something.
Ali was looking at me all scared, drained face, wide eyes, and all. She looks like a deer in the headlights, I thought, laughing in my head at her reaction. When the elevator door opened, Ali ran as fast as if her life depended on it, around the corner and out of sight. I felt a pressure on my wrist and saw Raurke pulling me out of the elevator. My heart rate picked up.
"What do you want?" I asked nervously, looking up at Raurke leaning up against a wall.
He gave me a look and answered, "No thanks for your hero Romeo?" I raised my eyebrows and glared at him.
"You are NOT my Romeo," I said with an exasperated sigh. "But I suppose I do owe you a thanks for helping me last night," I stated, looking down.
"Thank me with a kiss instead," Raurke suggested slyly, pushing my chin up with his finger and standing closer. I just looked at him and then in there I forgot what my name was where I was what I was doing I don't even know. What the hell? Why? I swear he has no buffers or filter. Raurke then began to lean in closer to me and I don't even know what is going on but somewhere between petrified, wanting to run away, and wanting to see what his kiss would be like I fell down, landing square on my back.
Yep. Like the socially awkward person I am, my brain's instinct is to fall over.
Raurke, with an emotionless look on his face, pulled me back up on my feet and swooped in hurriedly into what I assumed to be another attempt at a kiss. I had no time to react when he pulled our torsos together, his hand on the small of my back and his mouth next to my ear. I heard a chuckle and I was trying to regain myself, and heard the small whisper in my ear, "Why would I want to kiss an ugly girl like you?"
He blew in my ear, quickly releasing me and turning around. He walked off, opposite direction of breakfast, leaving me standing there, helpless. He just left me there standing there wondering what was happening, and most of all, questioning why was my heart racing so fast for an emo wannabe delinquent.
