Tyler had detention after school today because he beat up a freshman. The little pup had the temerity to tell him that he was being mean to his friends. Tyler was normally a patient person but his patience went out the window when the fresher insulted him. Tyler was furious all day; he couldn't concentrate properly in all his classes without clenching and unclenching his fists.
Tyler's anger had always been his weakness. According to his father, it would lead him to danger. Tyler's father looked down on him and considered him a spoilt brat who always got what he wanted. Tyler behaved in this manner because he wanted his parent's attention. They were rarely at home to act as a parent should. Tyler used to be a nicer person but this attribute changed dramatically when Franca took no notice of his feelings.
After detention, Tyler got in his latest Aston Martin, careful, so as not to scratch his 'baby'. On his way home, he recalled the events that happened in his past. He used to be a geek who had a crush on Franca; she was his best friend back then. He felt deeply for her although he was still of a considerable young age. Indifference was now the new term to describe the way he felt for her.
Tyler and Franca were virtually inseparable. They were referred to as peas in a pod. Whilst on vacation, Tyler travelled to California. He became observant of his appearance. He lost his baby fat and glasses, developed a six pack and grew to a height of 6'2. His appearance became paramount to him. He became obsessed with the way he looked; this led to the loss of potential true friends he could have had. The friends he now had were only with him because of his popularity and money.
Girls became attracted to him. He used to be called cute and adorable now they referred to him as hot. Girls were literally flocking to him; he was the bee's knees. Tyler made the attention get literally to his head, he became arrogant. He felt that if they couldn't be attracted to him when he was a geek, it was a waste of his energy treating them properly. He swore that no girl would be ever worthy of his love. He considered Franca like them too, so he cut off all ties with her. Franca tried talking to him, she even went out of her way but he blatantly ignored her. Ever since that occurrence, whenever they saw each other at school, they always went different ways.
Franca was averagely beautiful back then. In his geeky eyes, she was perfectly beautiful. What a turn of events it had been, she looked gorgeous now. Any boy would be lucky to date her but Tyler didn't harbour romantic feelings towards her anymore.
He had a girlfriend now, Jessica Harvey. She was breath-taking, petite like how he liked them. Jessica was fashion conscious and popular which added to his attraction towards her. She had blonde straight hair and blue eyes, which sparkled whenever she was happy. Tyler liked her, not love. Girls didn't have that impact on his feelings anymore. He knew Jessica only liked him for his looks and reputation at school but he was still attracted to her. Their relationship was cliché, The Jock and The Cheerleader.
Tyler drove through the busy traffic lights until he got home. He opened the door of his car, got out and entered his house. He ran upstairs to his room. He looked at himself in the mirror to reaffirm his attractiveness. He took a shower to freshen up, got out, wrapped a towel on his waist and quickly wore his clothes. Feeling hungry, he went to the kitchen to warm up a pizza and grabbed a can of coke from the fridge after the pizza was heated enough.
He switched on the TV to watch a basketball match. His dog, Rambo barked and ran towards him licking his face happily. He ruffled Rambo's head. Rambo sat down waggling his tail enthusiastically.
"Tyler, wheaw war you?" shouted his three year old brother, Michael. Michael had just woken up and was wearing his spider man's pyjamas staring at him with his huge brown eyes. He had dark brown hair and grey eyes. His eyes were sparkly, full of cheerfulness. Tyler loved his brother, he was the only one that kept him sane and made him sometimes think there was good in people.
"I went to school. Where are mum and dad?" Tyler asked. They had a maid who looked after Michael when their parents went out. When the maid noticed Tyler's presence, she said her goodbye and left.
"Thew wen fud showping". Michael said staring at Tyler whilst eating his chocolate like it was going to be taken away from him. Tyler chuckled; Michael sure loves his chocolates he thought smiling at his adorable brother.
"Ok, come eat pizza with me" Tyler said. Michael jumped on the couch and immediately grabbed the last pizza on his plate, eating it greedily.
"Michael, manners" Tyler said raising my eyebrows, trying to hide the fact that he found Michael's behaviour amusing.
"Swrry" Michael replied pouting. He was going to be a heartbreaker, Tyler thought inwardly.
Tyler and Michael watched the basketball match together. Some few minutes later, they heard their parent's voices outside the house. The car tires screeched to an abrupt stop, alerting them that they had gotten out of their car.
"Tyler, Michael, we are home" Rosie McDonalds said tiredly pulling grocery bags into the house. Her husband, Daniel McDonalds was behind her helping her carry some of the bags into the house.
Michael sprang away from the couch running to meet his parents. He jumped on Rosie's hips laying his head on her shoulders and asked Daniel what he bought for him. Michael was such a favourite, Tyler thought. Tyler rolled his eyes saying inwardly that he certainly was the black sheep of the family.
"Tyler, come and help me" Rosie said ruffling Tyler's hair as she dropped the grocery bags on the hallway. Rosie knew Tyler hated it but that didn't stop her. Rosie still considered Tyler a child. Mothers and their maternal behaviour, Tyler sighed inaudibly. Daniel in contrast, considered Tyler a man and treated him like one.
"Tyler, I hope you were not in any trouble at school today?" asked Daniel, staring intensely at him. His voice was hollow and hoarse. The relationship between Tyler and his father was very strained.
"Yes Dad, I was well behaved until a freshman pissed me off" Tyler said shrugging his shoulders, as if beating a boy younger than him wasn't a big deal.
"Tyler, language, I have a remedy to sort that anger of yours". Rosie shouted exasperated. Rosie always tried to smooth things over between Tyler and his father.
"Yeah, yeah" Tyler said inaudibly not sparing a glance in his father's direction. Daniel had a strict rule of Tyler not looking him in the eyes when he spoke, he found it disrespectful.
After helping his mum to arrange the food stuffs into the cupboard, Tyler went to the living room to continue the program he was watching before his parent's arrival.
Rosie called them to the dining table after dinner was prepared. She cooked spaghetti Bolognese, his favourite. Tyler praised his mother's cooking, earning a cheerful smile from her.
After dinner, Rosie called him into the living room. She told Michael to go upstairs.
"Tyler, you are getting married" Daniel said, his voice void of emotion or amusement.
"What, are you kidding me Dad; I have a girlfriend whom I like very much" Tyler shouted angry with his father for having made a life changing decision for him.
"Like, you say?" Daniel asked smirking. He knew of Tyler's philandering ways.
"Yes, Dad, I like her very much, we have been together for two years" Tyler replied harshly, ignoring his father's knowing stare.
"Well, that did not stop you from repeatedly cheating on her, did it?" Daniel retorted. Jessica always complained about his cheating ways, to his parents.
"No" Tyler simply said, putting his head down in shame. Tyler knew he had lost the argument.
"Tyler, do not disrespect your Dad, you will listen to him" Rosie said glaring at him.
"You will be getting married to Franca and that is final" Daniel said shouting at Tyler.
"No, this can't be happening to me" Tyler said running away from them to his room.
