Shikamaru watched as Naru gave him a anxious gaze her watery blue eyes filled with panic. "I don't want to tell you. I-I don't know you and we aren't close..." She muttered out anxiously not wanting to hurt his feelings.

He knows that Naru cannot see and the fact that she can still see his general direction unnerves him.

Shikamaru kept silent before finally deciding. "My name is Shikamaru Nara, I'm 11 and a academy student. My birthday is on September 22 and I'll be your friend from now so will you tell me?"

His words made the weight on her heart lift considerately, she had no one to share her burdens with and she finally found one, she could tell that he wasn't lying. How? She didn't know but she knew it had something to do with chakra.

She would definitely treasure Shikamaru, he was the first to approach her and he knew of her most important secret, well second, including Kurama. Kurama couldn't be counted as a friend since Kurama was forced to be with her and they had to get along either ways so he wasn't a voluntary friend.

But Naru didn't consider Kurama as a friend, she considered him to be a partner one that would be with her till old, till life or death. They were inseparable and if he was ever separated from her it would be a huge problem as Konoha's security was on the line. Or well that was what Kurama would tell her, he would tell story of his rampant days and what would happen if he was released.

'The only possible way I would be released is if the skill weaken or if you die. But it's gonna be hard to kill you because of me.' He smirked feeling smug. Naru nodded as she snuggled into Kurama's thick fur. It was so soft...

" I-" She gulped as she snapped back to reality from Shikamaru's worried stare, her throat feeling dry.

"That week, they planned to get rid of me." She started, playing with the hem of her long sleeves squeezing her eyes shut as memories of angry shouts and people holding wooden torches. She could hear their cries loud and clear as if they were just beside her once again.

"They?" Shikamaru pressed, his eyes narrowing.

"T-They. The villagers." Naru said, her voice full of sorrow as she recounted the hate projected at her by them since she was young, not knowing why she was even ostracized for. His eyes widened, civilians? Attacking a kid? This was not a Konoha he knew.

"After that, I got some skin trauma, but the most important problem was my eyes. I woke up in darkness." Shikamaru held her hand to stop her from shaking, it was fresh in her mind, she could be traumatized for life and that would be a problem. If she wanted to continue to be a ninja she had to get over this, no matter how cruel it was she had to face reality. It was also not advisable for her to continue being a ninja because she was blind.

This was the harsh reality he had to tell her, or else she would be in grave danger instead.

"If you were blind why didn't you seek help from the medic nins?"

"I was hit on the optic nerve, so my eyes weren't hurt, it was the back of my head that they hit. It wasn't that I didn't seek help, but I couldn't. There wasn't any medic nin who could save my sight, even if there was, they wouldn't save someone like me."

Hearing the last sentence, Shikamaru's brows furrowed. "Why, why do they look at you like that. Even if you pull pranks some times, it shouldn't be the source of their hate."

Kurama growled a little at the memory of those villagers, his gaze turned completely hostile. His fur stood on its ends and a little red chakra seeped out again, the presence of the chakra brought Shikamaru into involuntary shivers. The blood lust within that chakra was just that strong, he had no way to defend himself from the killer intent it brought.
