2.8 Impossible Dreams

After knocking on the door, I switch my balance from one foot to the other as I wait for an answer. Running my hand through my hair, frustrated and not knowing exactly which emotion to feel, I start chewing my nail.

I turn towards the door on hearing the lock clicking before it opened. "God, what took you so long!" I mutter and push past him to enter his place.

Vikas closes the door behind him in confusion, "Annie? What are you doing here?"

I throw my purse on the table and turn to face him, "I need something to punch."

"Oh, God." He mutters under his breath knowing it is not every day that I speak violently. "Who wronged you?"

I open my mouth to speak but I can't find myself in verbalizing what just happened in the office with Aarav. So, instead I ask. "First, I need a drink. Have something strong?"

"Just beer." he answers walking over to the fridge.

Not what I had in mind, but it'll have to do. "Thanks," I accept one that he brings over and take a huge swing of it. "Who does he think he is?"

He walks over to sit at the couch, "Who?"

I follow and slump into the cushion. "How could he do that?"

"Do what?"

"Why would he do something so stupid?"

By now, he seems to have figured out asking me follow up questions for clarification is useless. So, he stops and offers instead, "Just tell me a name and I'll go beat him up for you."

Now that, I reply to just because of all the mixed-up emotions I am feeling. "A certain idiot called Aarav Singh Raizada."

He grimaces at once, reclining. "I love you, Annie, like my own little sister, but sorry. I'm going to have to take back my offer."

"Traitor," I label him though I was not serious about wanting him to hurt Aarav.

He shifts so he is facing me and asks, "So, why are you two fighting?"

I laugh, "No. Oh, no. This... this is not a fight. This kinda, sorta, ends our friendship."

He sucks in a breath with a wince. "Oo. He did that, huh?"

My brows narrow to question what he thinks happened, "Did what?"

He gives me a pointed look, "Do you really need me to say it?" When I continue to look at him, waiting, he gets his answers. "Okay, but you asked for it. He kissed you, didn't he?"
