Moira's Pov

I hum to myself as I put away the books the children left on the floor. My bookstore has been pretty busy lately, since parents has been dropping off their kids here as they look around the many shops.

I pick up the last book and put it away just as the bell rings, letting me know someone has come in. "Please look around and ask me if you need anything!" I call.

I go to my my desk and watch the person who came in go to the romance section of the store. Some young girls that are regulars here look up to see the lady looking around.

She grabs a book and comes to my desk. It's a popular romance book about a couple who is forced to kill at their school, and eventually have to kill each other.

"How much is this?" The lady says. The book is $20 but I've already made a lot of business today so I can drop the price for her.

"$10, ma'am." I say. She hands me the money. "Great choice, by the way. I heard it's one of the prince's favorites."

"I've also heard that, so that's why I'm going to be reading it. You know, I heard the princes are looking for wives. A young lady like you would be perfect for one of them."

"Me? Sorry, but I'm just a bookstore owner. I wouldn't want to look like I want riches or a title anyway." I smile softly.

"Well, thank you for the book." The lady leaves the store.

As she leaves I check the time. It's already time to close? "It's closing time! See you tomorrow." I call to my regulars, the young girls. They wave me as they walk out and go their separate ways.

I lock up the shop and go into the town square. Although it's later in the day it's still bustling with activity. I start walking through it when i notice one of the regular girls at the bookstore arguing with a shop owner. I go over to see what it's all about.

"Well, maybe I can pay you back tomorrow!" The girl says.

"No. $15 now or no fruit." The owner says.

"But I only have $5!" The girl starts to cry.

"Maybe you should've looked at prices before trying to pay." The owner spits. He rolls his eyes.

It's true the girl should have looked at the prices, but she's only around 12. "I can pay the other $10. Here." I give the owner the money.

The girl gives her $5 and the worker hands her a bag of apples and pears. "Thank you!" She smiles at me and runs home. I also start to leave until the woman the was in my shop earlier stops me.

"Hello again!" I say.

"That was very kind of you. Please take this." She gives me a letter and goes on her way. It's strange that she'd give me this.

I continue to walk home, knowing I'm not going to be home in time for dinner now.

~

I didn't come home in time for dinner, like I predicted. I'll have to buy one of Quin's baked goods tomorrow so I won't go hungry.

I remember the letter the lady gave me earlier and open it.

To the given girl,

I welcomingly invite you to the game! For a year you will be staying at the palace trying to win over one of the three princes of Cordelia. Please arrive at the palace on the 14 of this month at 11am sharp, I look forward to your arrival.

Sincerely,
Queen Lily

Oh. Now that I think about it, the lady had the palace insignia on her necklace. God, I'm so stupid! Well, I suppose I'll go. I don't want to decline.

I'll have to tell my mom that she won't have to worry about me making it home to dinner for a while...
