Dean's death was something Cas never saw coming. He knew he was depressed, but he assured Cas he was get ting better. And he believed him. Dean was broken inside, and that's something Cas could never fix. Bobby came over later that day to give Cas something he found next to Dean's hanging body. It was a letter.
Dear Cas,
I can't apologize enough for the things I've caused you. I'm sorry I ever came into your life. But even if I could, I wouldn't change a thing. I just wanted to thank you for the impact you had on my life. I honestly would've been dead a long time ago if it wasn't for you. You showed me love like no one has ever shown me before. You were my one and only true love, Castiel Novak. I always said I never believed in any of that "meant to be" or "soulmate" crap, but I guess just hadn't met mine yet. You were my angel, Cas. Look out for Sammy, and tell him I'm sorry and I love him. Goodbye, Cas. I'll always love you.
- yours forever, Dean
The funeral was small but sweet. Mrs. Novak, along with Gabe and Meg flew out to California to attend. Sam spoke a heart warming speech, of course. There wasn't a dry eye in the house after that. It then came time for Cas's speech. He took a deep breath and let it all out.
"Dean Winchester was one of the bravest people I have ever met. I never expected someone like him to come into my life. But from the moment I saw him, I instantly fell in love with him. Even covered in scars and bruises, I couldn't help myself. There was a voice in my head telling me he was the one. He never failed to make me laugh, even when I was at rock bottom. The thing that made Dean special was even though he was struggling himself, he never failed to be there for others. Especially me and Sam. He never complained, not once. He was my best friend, and I loved him. I will always love him." Cas paused and looked up to the sky while tears welled in his eyes.
"I love you, Dean."
