My parents were on vacation for a week and I don't like being alone at night, so we decided to have me stay at my best friend Danny's house.
My second to last night of having to stay there, Danny and I talked about anything we could think of and listened to music. Around midnight I fell asleep listening to the sound of rain.
At 2am I was woken up by the sound of thunder shaking my window. Wide awake, I get up and sit on the large window ledge, my knees tucked against my chest, and stare at the sky. Lightening flashes into the bedroom over and over.
Seconds later the door opens and I see Danny standing there. "You awake too?" he asks.
"Yeah. It's too loud to sleep through."
He nodded his head and asked, "Mind if I come in?"
"No, Danny, go away." I said, then smiled, "I'm just kidding."
He laughed and walked over to the window ledge and sat across from me. It was quiet for a few minutes except for the storm outside.
Quietly, Danny said, "(Y/N)...we need to talk. I've been awake all night thinking."
I quickly looked at him, frightened by the words 'we need to talk'.
"Yeah?" I asked, "everything okay?"
"Everything's fine, trust me, I just- uhh...have to tell you something."
"You can tell me anything Danny."
He sighed and said, "I've been holding this back for a long time. But, I like you. More than friends."
I felt my heart start racing. Just as I was about to say something he began talking again.
"I was just too scared to say it because I didn't wanna ruin our friendship. We've been friends since preschool, that would be a long friendship wasted."
I smiled and said, "Danny, I...I honestly feel the same way, and I've always been too terrified to confess it."
He smiled and said, "Are you serious?"
"I'm completely serious."
We both leaned in slowly, and seconds later I felt his lips on mine. It was a long, gentle kiss. When we both pulled away I pressed my forehead against his.
"Do you know how long I've wanted to do that.." said Danny.
"Trust me, I know.."
He fixed his hair and said, "How about we go on our first date tomorrow?"
I smiled and said, "I would love that."
