Interview with the Against The Current's singer, Thera Harrington

Against The Current has been the discovery of the year : with their rock-pop sound, the trio has been rapidly gaining in fame this last year. It's also this year that they have been on their first world tour for their most recent album "In Our Bones".

The LA-based band started on YouTube before releasing their two first EP's Gravity and Infinity. The band is a trio composed of Matt Lowry on drums, Luke Galli at the guitar and Thera Harrington as lead singer. We had the pleasure of sitting down with Thera to discuss fame, music, song writing and more.

Hi Thera, thank you so much for accepting to do this interview!

It's a pleasure! I've always loved this magazine so I'm so happy to be here!

I've gotta ask, why aren't Matt and Luke with us today?

Matt's on vacation actually, he's in Mexico for the moment and Luke, he's with his family so you only have me!

Well we're already incredibly happy to have you here!

So first of all, and I know you probably have already been asked this question often but how is it to be in a band and thus on tour with 2 boys?

Oh god, you're right I've had this question a lot of times but it's great really, they're one of my best friends and they're divas at times so let's just say I'm not the only one that takes time to get prepared (laughs)

So they take time to get prepared?

Not always but a lot of times yes, during your mostly.

Talking about touring, you guys just recently came back from one, right?

Yes! Our "In Our Bones" tour in Europe and Asia!

And it was your first world tour?

Yes it was, we're so happy we had this opportunity!

How was it? Which city did you prefer?

It was simply amazing, I can't believe we have that much fans worldwide, it's incredible. As for my favorite cities, I couldn't really choose, they're all great cities!

Come on, one european and one asian.

Hmmmm, if I really had to choose I would say London or Brussels for Europe and Tokyo for Asia.

And why is that?

Well London is such an amazing city, it's beautiful and I loved walking around, plus they speak english so it's easier (laughs). Brussels has really good waffles and is also a pretty city, it still has old architecture plus their fries are to die for. Finally, Tokyo is just... incredible. It's so different from the US whether it's the food, the culture, the way the city is organized, I was just blown away when we arrived there.

And your opening acts?

Well for the american tour we took our great friend Sarah Whittaker, she's an amazing singer, so talented, it was so fun to have her around. For the european and asian tour, our opening act was Alex Myles, he's also a great artist and a great guy, really.

And you started dating right? When did that happen?

Yes, we are dating! We got along really well pretty quickly, as we were basically  spending all of our time together, started dating at the end of the tour and made it official once we were back home.

Now that you're home, are you back in the studio?

Well honestly, we didn't want to hit the studios right away. We worked so hard for the past year on our In Our bones album and then our tour that we wanted to take a little while off. But as soon as Matt's back from Mexico, we'll be back to it!

Exciting! Any songs you've written yet?

I have drafts, lyrics that came to me and I have a couple ideas of what our songs could talk about but nothing official!
