Niall’s P.O.V

It was 3:45 in the morning when Briyanna got a phone call waking us both.

“My father?” She asked into the phone. I looked at her intently. She held up a finger. “Okay. I will be right there.” She got up after hanging up and threw on the sweater she had been wearing earlier and her shoes.

“What’s happening?” I asked throwing on a pair of jeans and a hoodie.

“My father is in the hospital. His plane crashed.” She said leaving the room. I followed. “You don’t have to come with me.” She said as we stepped into the elevator.

“Yes I do.” I told her grabbing her hand. We rode down in the elevator in silence. When we got down to the lobby, I called a cab. We waited outside for about 5 minutes before it showed up. We got in and Briyanna looked really tired.

“Lie down and sleep. We should be at the hospital in about 45 minutes.” She nodded and put her head in my lap. I stoked her hair while she slept. I stopped for a moment while I checked the time on my phone. She frowned slightly. I smiled at my sleeping girlfriend and continued stroking her hair. It was so soft, and beautiful. Then it hit me. I was going to meet her father. All these questions were flying through my mind. What if he doesn’t like me? What do I say when I meet him? Should I act like I’m just a friend? And worst of all, what if Briyanna isn’t allowed to see me anymore? I thought all these questions over and over. I couldn’t imagine not being with Briyanna anymore. She made me… me. I don’t think I could handle having her taken away from me again.

“We are here.” The cab driver tells me. I fish out the money out of my pocket to pay for the ride including the tip. I put my arms underneath Briyanna and lift her out of the cab. I walk her to the hospital doors. When she wakes up, I put her feet down on the ground and grab her hand. We walked up to the reception desk.

“Greg McDonald?” Briyanna asked. The woman flipped through a few sheets of paper on the desk.

“This way please.” She said getting up and walking down the hall. We followed.

“This room. A nurse will be in shortly.” Briyanna pulled back the curtain to reveal a man who had a few minor cuts and bruises on his face, his head was wrapped in a bandage, his leg was in a cast and his arm was in a sling. He was also asleep. There were two chairs by the bed. We each sat in one. I kept one of her hands in mine and she held her father’s hand. A nurse came in not too much later.

“Briyanna?”

“Yes?” She asked looking up at the nurse.

“Your father went through a traumatic accident when the plane that he was on coming back to London crashed. He has a broken collar bone, a broken leg, minor cuts and bruises and he experienced a blow to the head. We don’t know the extent of the damage that the blow cause, but your father will be brain damaged.” Tears slipped down Briyanna’s cheeks. I put my free hand on Briyanna’s knee. “The damage can vary from minor memory loss to not being able to function independently.” Her breath caught at this but still she didn’t say anything. “But that is very unlikely.” She slowly released her breath.

“When will he be awake?” She asked the nurse cautiously.

“He has been put into a drug induced coma for the majority of the healing so he won’t be in as much pain. He won’t be awake for a while.” She looked at Briyanna sympathetically. I squeezed her hand.

“Is it okay if we just stay awhile longer? I want to just spend some time with him.” The nurse nodded and left quietly.

“Do you want to be alone?” I asked. She shook her head looking down. I gathered her in my arms. She didn’t let go of her father’s hand. She cried into my shoulder for a while. I felt so bad for her at that moment, but it also felt good to be needed, to be her rock. I would always be there for her, no matter what. I hope she realized that. She stopped crying eventually. We just sat there with each other.

“Ready to go back?” She nodded. By the time we left the hospital after she had said goodbye, it was 6.

“Do you want to go back to the flat?” She nodded. She was still really tired. She had bags under her eyes and her hair was a mess. She looked young. Vulnerable. I would protect her, just like I had promised. I had called a cab once again and we got into one almost immediately. Briyanna lay down with her head on my lap automatically. She didn’t fall asleep instantly like she had before. Tears slipped down her cheek and pooled on a spot on my leg. I brushed her tears away with my fingers and I kissed her forehead. A few minutes after I had started stroking her hair again, knowing it relaxed her, she had fallen asleep. I did too shortly after that. The driver woke us up when we had arrived at the flat. His words didn’t wake Briyanna though. I carried her up to the flat without waking her. It was seven before I put her back into my bed. I crawled in after her and fell asleep.

I woke up to an empty bed and I got scared for a moment before Briyanna walked back into the room. I let out a sigh of relief and she came and sat down on the bed and smiled at me.

“You okay?” She asked running a hand through my hair.

“Mhmm. You?” I asked referring to earlier.

“Yeah.” She said smiling slightly.

“Good.” I said sitting up and giving her a kiss. “Cause I have a surprise for you.” Her eyes lit up.

“What is it?” She asked.

“I think you’re forgetting the meaning of surprise.” I said tapping her nose with my finger. She giggled and pressed me back into the bed and kissed me.

“Please?” She whispered against my neck as she kissed it causing me to shiver. It was a manly shiver though. Definitely manly. She smiled against my neck.

“You will see soon enough.” I said tracing circles on her back.

“Fine.” She said sitting back still on top of my and pouting.

“Coffee first though?” I asked and she smiled again. I got up and went to the bathroom and she got ready. I came back to see her in my shirt.http://www.polyvore.com/nialls_surprise/set?id=57321890#stream_box I loved this look on her. Laid back and natural. I leaned against the frame as I watched her brushing her long blonde hair. She turned to see me watching. She blushed and set her brush down.

“Ready?” I asked. She nodded and reached for my hand. I took it and we walked out into the living room where all the lads were except for Zayn, who was sleeping surprise, surprise.

“Where are you two going?” Louis asked looking up from his phone.

“Out.” I said winking at Briyanna who rolled her eyes. They nodded knowing that it was a surprise. Briyanna and I left the room and got to the curb where Brandon was waiting.

“Good afternoon Niall, Briyanna.” He said smiling.

“Afternoon.” Briyanna and I both nodded. The time when we were in the car and when we were in Starbucks ordering and back into the car, Briyanna kept on trying to get me to tell her where I was taking her. I refused to give any hints. It didn’t matter though. We were there. Briyanna realized where we were and her eyes lit up with joy.
