Briyanna’s P.O.V

The last things I saw when I fell asleep for the surgery were Niall’s eyes. They were also the first things I woke up to. I woke to a dull pain near my hip. I looked over to see Niall’s blue eyes. He was still holding my hand.

"How are you feeling?" He asked.

“Much better.” I told him truthfully. The ache was nothing compared to what I was feeling earlier. I looked up at the clock on the wall. It was 7 o’clock in the evening.

“Did you miss your rehearsal because of me?” I asked.

"We cancelled it." He told me. I looked at him sadly.

“You shouldn’t have done that. I would have been fine on my own.” I said to him.

"You might have been fine, but I wouldn’t have been." He said sadly. I smiled at him.

"Thanks for staying with me." I said with all my heart. Just then the rest of the boys burst in the room. They had as many stuffed animals and balloons they could hold. They dropped them all onto my feet. Niall pulled out a blue teddy bear from under his chair. He knew blue was my favorite color. It held a heart that said ‘I Love You’ across it. I grabbed it with my free hand and jumped when it started talking. It said ‘I love you Bri.’ I smiled when the message finished and squeezed the heart again.

"Thank you Nialler." I said leaning into him for a kiss. I pressed my lips to his making the kiss short because the lads were in the room. I was looking into his eyes before I heard someone clear their throat. I looked up to see my father standing in the doorway.

"I would like a moment alone with my daughter." He said. Niall squeezed my hand one last time and then he got up to leave. When the door clicked shut, I turned away from my father still hurting from the last visit. He sat down in the chair Niall had just a few short minutes ago. He sighed and I could hear him rubbing his beard.

"I am dancing again." I blurted out. I didn’t feel any need or want to please him.anymore.

"I don’t know why." He said coldly.

"Because I love it." I told him just as coldly.

"It is pointless and doing nothing for you."

“It’s making me happier and keeping me healthy.” He laughed at this.

"Look at where you are."

"That has nothing to do with dance." I snapped.

"You do so many pointless things and you are just wasting your time."

"I am sorry I’m such a disappointment to you Dad." I said still not looking at him as tears gathered in my eyes.

"You aren’t a disappointment. I just wish you were more practical."

"I would pick being not the most practical person in the world than being it and being unhappy." I told him looking at him for the first time. He looked tired.

"You don’t know what would make you happy until you tried it. I will pay for law school-" He started but I cut him off.

"I have been saving up for years. Mom is chipping in and Grandma left two years worth of tuition money for me. I don’t need your money." I spat at him through clenched teeth.

"Happiness isn’t the most important thing in the world."

"Yeah but it’s a damn big part of it."

"What makes you happiest?" He asked warmth in his voice for the first time this visit. I didn’t even have to think.

"Niall." I said without hesitation. He sighed and frowned.
