The guilt inside of me is eating at me. I walked back into my room to see Dan lying on his stomach reading the latest issue of Girlfriend. I sat his glass of lemonade down beside him before watching him flip through the pages.

He glanced up at me after a few minutes. His smirk slowly slid onto his gorgeous face. “What?”

I sighed as I put my glass on the table beside me. “We’ve never talked about it.”

“Never talked about what?”

“About my… you know.” I never liked the word scars.

His eyes widened. “Oh yeah.” He said patting the spot next to him. I follow his directions and sat legs crossed. Dan took my hands in his before beginning.

“Those scars scare the living shit out of me. I’m not gonna lie. They really do. But I’m trying to see beyond them. Do you know how bad I feel?” Thinking it was a question I shook my head. He let out a sigh before starting again.

“Mack, those scars are because of me. I pretty much took a razor blade and killed your beautiful, perfect soul. The guilt inside me is killing me without any weapons.”

I couldn’t look him in the eye anymore. I looked down at my legs. He feels bad? I’m the actual one who connected the blade with the wrist because I wasn’t strong enough.

“Who else knows?”

“Dylan.”

He frowned at that. “What about your parents?”

I only shook my head. “Nope.”

His lips formed into a straight line. “And they don’t know about your boxing.” I shook my head. He exhaled without moving his lips, out of his nose.

“And you plan on telling them when?”

“Probably never.”

He nodded. I think in approval.

“Hey Helen! Frank! Could you come up here please?!” He screamed, making the house rumble. I slapped him across the shoulder, trying to make him shut up. It didn’t work because I heard footsteps echoing from the hallway. My body becomes a tight mess, along with my stomach sinking to my feet.

The door opened, showing two very happy parents. It’s an emotion I lack.

“Before I say anything, I don’t think you guys are just friends anymore. So I want the door opened.” My mother said sternly which made me want to laugh out loud.

“Will do Helen. But that’s not why I wanted you guys in here. Mack has something she wants to tell –“ I nudged at his ribs.

“What is it sweetie?” She asks, her voice being too happy.

“Uh… um… I don’t know.” I stuttered, feeling like an idiot.

“Is it something to do with you extra-curricular activities?” Dan said, his tone implying like he was asking the question sarcastically.

“Please don’t let it be that you’re pregnant.” Mums voice sounded actually worried and frightened. It made me want to burst out laughing, and I did. Dan joined in.
