After dinner, I went up to a certain room and stood at its door. I took a deep breath before I knocked on the door and walked in. The room is my mother's, and she hasn't left it in almost two years. My mother fell under a serious illness called Small-cell carcinoma, which is an aggressive form of lung cancer that most commonly occurs in smokers. It usually starts in the breathing tubes (bronchi) and grows very quickly, creating large tumors and spreads throughout the body. My mom experiences bloody phlegm, cough, chest pain, and shortness of breath on a daily basis...
Her room doesn't even look like it used to anymore, it's filled with medical equipment and pill bottles. I walked over to her bedside and put my hand on hers. She slowly opened her eyes and turned to look at me. "(m/n)," She breathed and I smiled. "Hi, mamá, are you comfortable?" I asked and she slowly shook her head. "I'm fine, don't bother asking that. How was your day?" My mother's words were kind of out of breath, making me worry. "It was wonderful! I went and spent time with Haruhi," I said, and my mother smiled.
"That's great, I know you guys haven't seen each other in a while." I nodded and continued, "Yes, we went to Ouran Academy and she introduced me to her club members," I explained. "I see she's still in that Host Club then." I laughed and said that I was surprised too. "She invited me because she wanted me to join the club with her, mamá." My mom arched a brow, "Really?" I nodded, "Yeah, and I actually joined." My mom had a knowing look on her face. "Your father loved entertaining the ladies, so I'm not surprised." I snorted at that.
"But then he met you, and knew that you were the only one he wanted to shower with love." My mom smiled and looked away from me. I knew she was remembering the happy memories with my dad. My father passed away because someone he broke ties with killed him. All I know is that the man was my dad's best friend, so I don't know what the motive was. That happened when I was around the age of eight. And now, a few years later, my mother has become ill. How tragic, am I right? "(m/n), stop thinking about the past," She said as she cupped my cheek.
My thoughts stopped when I looked into her eyes. "Lo siento, mamá." I apologized in my mother's native tongue. She smiled softly and said, *"Esta bien mi hijo Sé que el pasado todavía duele. Pero recuerda que tu padre quiere que vivas en el futuro, y yo también." I grabbed my mother's hand and kissed it. *"Gracias mamá por recordármelo," I said and she hummed. Before either of could say anything, my mother began wheezing. "Mamá, you need to take your inhaler and rest now," I said as I grabbed it handed it to my her.
I administered it to herself and gave it to me. I fixed her blanket and then looked back at her. "I'm so sorry that you have to take care of me." She said and I gave her a reassuring smile. "Mamá, don't say that. I love you and I will go to any means, even if it takes my soul." I leaned in and kissed her forehead, earning a pleased hum. "Te amo, mi hijo." My mom whispered. "Yo también te quiero, mamá," I whispered back before I got up and left her. I stood there for a moment before I started for my room.
I walked into my and changed into some comfortable. I flopped down onto my bed, staring up at the ceiling. After a few minutes of lying in that position, Jirou came in. "Haven't you ever heard of knocking, what if I was changing or something?" I said as I sat up. "Why do you think I don't knock." I frowned and laid back down again. I patted the spot next to me. Jirou then came and laid beside me. "Can I tell you about today?" I asked as I continued to gaze up. He grunted. "Today, I joined a host club." You stated bluntly.
"A host club? Full of flirtatious boys that play with girl's hearts. That's it, you can't go to school anymore." Jirou said as he got up to look at me, with his head in his palm. I looked over at his towering form, laughing my head off. Jirou's features softened. He enjoyed seeing me smile and laugh, it reminded him of when he first met me.
~Flashback~
I sat stiffly in Mr. Yamada's office, waiting for the reason as to why I'm here. The door opened and I instantly stood up. was standing there himself. "Ah, I see you've been waiting for me." He said as he came to stand in front of me. "I haven't for long, Sir," I said stiffly. He smiled and put a hand on my shoulder, making me go rigid. "Relax Mr. Akamine, you're not in trouble," Raizo said with caring eyes, but I knew that he could be scary if he wanted too. "I've requested you here for an extremely important job," Raizo continued.
"I heard that you graduated at the top of your class and that you're reliable. You're the type of man I need." I felt a surge of confidence fill me up. "Thank you, Sir." Raizo's face turned serious. "I have someone that you need to protect with your life." He then walked over to the door and opened it, revealing a woman and a young boy."This is my wife Marie and my beloved son, (m/n)," Raizo said as they entered the room. "We want you to protect our child," Marie said as she gazed happily down at (m/n).
"If anything were to happen to us, we want you to always be by his side," Raizo said as he too looked down at (m/n). "Do you accept?" He asked and I nodded. "It would be an honor to protect someone so dear to you," I said as I bowed. "Thank you so much, Mr. Akamine, we truly are grateful that you would do this for us," Marie said as she gently put her hand on my shoulder. "(m/n)," Marie continued, "Why don't you come and meet your protector." The little boy looked up at me and smiled.
"Hello, I'm really happy that you're gonna protect me from the bad guys." I blinked, surprised at how mature he was for his age. "I'll do the best I can, my lord," I said as I bowed to him, making him erupt in giggles and his parents laugh at the cute display.
~End of Flashback~
"Hey Jirou, are you there?" I asked, waving my hand in front of the man's face. He blinked, coming back to reality. He noticed how much I've grown. I wasn't that little boy with bright eyes. I'm an adult, all grown up. My eyes no longer had that childish glow, but one of authority, maturity, and observance. "Sorry, I was just remembering something." He said as he rubbed his eyes. "Okay," I said as I looked over at my nightstand clock, reading that it was almost ten. "Whelp, I better get to bed," I said as you sat up, Jirou following my actions.
"You better do a good job of keeping me safe." I've been saying those words for the past 8 years Jirou's been with me. He grinned and said, "Do you expect any less from, Moi?" We both laughed and bid each other goodnight. "Tomorrow will be interesting," I thought as I slowly, but surely, fell into a deep sleep.
*"It's okay my son. I know the past still hurts. But remember that your father wants you to live in the future, and so do I."
*"Thank you, mom, for reminding me."
