Song: The Only Thing Worth Fighting For - Lera Lynn
What kind of quiz is this?! Jinke screamed in his mind as he glared at the page of strangely easy equations, his teeth grinding against the once hexagonal end of his pencil. What kind of lunatic would give her students a quiz on the last day of junior high? Mind you, it's not hard but...
"Alright students, time's up!" the woman at the front of the room called and slapped a ruler against her desk. A soft grin split her features and complimented her brilliant golden eyes. Her skin flashed a bright yellow, and she appeared in front of each of the students desks in a serpentine pattern. Every student in Mrs. Mado's class debated whether her Quirk was super speed, teleportation or a mix of both. One curious student went so far as to suggest she can move through time, but everyone shut him down about that. No way could anyone control time, they said.
Mado zoomed back to the front desk and rifled through all the papers. "I see only a few of you cracked the code," she mused and held up the three sheets of paper she was referring to. "Mesagamoto, Sagaku and... well, both Sagakus. You brothers are a given, you share a body after all."
Maran glared at his teacher. "Hey teach, just cuz we share a body doesn't mean-" Taio's hand shot up and covered Maran's blabbering lips.
"What my brother means to say is 'Thank you for the praise, Mrs. Mado, it means a lot to us'," he corrected his twin, before dropping his hand and leaving the class to burst into laughter. Mado cleared her throat loudly.
"As these three boys show, all these equations should form a code if you connect each result to the corresponding letter of the English alphabet." She wrote up a series of numbers - the results of each equation, Jinke noticed - on the board. She then wrote their corresponding letter underneath them. They spelled out 'good luck love from mado'. A unanymous 'awwwww' resonated from all around the room. "I wish you all good luck with wherever you go from here. I know most of you want to go to hero schools, but if you can't or it's not your style, then do your best wherever else you plan to go," she addressed her students, just before the bell rang to signal the end of class.
Alright, food time! Jinke headed towards the back of the room to access his bag - but someone barred the way. Musei Nigaita.
"Yo, Netsudai. Hear you're off to try for the U.A. exam, huh?" He sneered and ran a hand through his messy, crimson locks, glaring at Jinke menacingly. One single blink...
Musei Nigaita. The local school bully - has no friends, mostly thanks to his Quirk, Pain. Nigaita can transfer pain from his body to others just by blinking while looking at their eyes.
Jinke shifted his gaze to look away from Nigaita's eyes. "Yeah, what's it to you?"
Nigaita grasped Jinke's shirt and pulled him up to gaze directly into his eyes. "Watch your back, dumbass, you get in my way and I'll make sure you suffer more than you have ever before." He set Jinke back down and kept eye contact. Jinke's fist was clenched, and blue flames flared up along his arm, crackling idly in the air. "Ohhh, big boy's gonna hit me with his 'Refridgerator' Quirk. Soooo scary!" he teased, before walking out of the class, snickering the whole way.
With Nigaita's back turned, Jinke began to throw a flame-powered punch in his direction, but an arm wrapped around his and held him back. "Hey, Jin, sweetie, he's not worth your time," Hana cooed and turned Jinke around to face him. A soft, understanding smile was glued to his lips.
"Right, yeah, you're right, sorry Hana," he apologised and through a leer over his shoulder as Nigaita turned the corner. "He just... pisses me off so much!" Jinke slammed his now extinguished fist into the desk next to him.
