AU: Rebellion

Important note: My Rebellion AU is a combination of A/B/O, the Rebellion AU itself, and No Murphy's Law. Please be aware that just because the other two aren't up there doesn't mean that they don't still apply. Thank you!

Takes place before "Back on Track", but after "Hey Now"

Zack had always worried that this would happen since they were fifteen and the Order began taking over. He'd worried for countless hours over what would happen if one of the Rebellion's agents were captured, agonized for days about countermeasures to prevent the final Mind Lock. He finally came up with a serum that made the effects of the Mind Lock temporary, given to every agent once a month and before every long-term or undercover mission, the field agents took.

The second the final products where complete the first ones to receive said serum where the Omegas, the one who's health would be risked the most. They found that it clashed with the (thankfully healthy and risk-free) suppressants that all Omegas took.

Milo was the first one to feel the effects of the two very potent drugs clashing in his system, or at least the first one to report it. He was laid up for a full month, unable to do much more than breath and blink and pray for relief as the serum made its way out of his system.

Zack, thankfully, was able to help by staying close when he could and offering comfort through the Bond when he couldn't. Zack went back to the drawing boards and came up with something that worked with the suppressants to help protect against Mind Lock.

So, when Milo went out on his next undercover mission, infiltrating the Order's ranks to find their next raid, their next safe house, their next objective, Zack thought he'd be safe. Imagine his surprise when the Order's Person-In-Charge (PIC) came on the line and announced to the world that they had caught one of the Rebellion's finest agents; the agent being Milo.

And Zack's horror when he realized that Milo had forgotten to get the shot in his haste to get to the mission on time. Zack suddenly cursed his need to stay with Milo as long as possible before the mission. He prayed Milo would be okay until they could get to him.

Zack also prayed for a miracle.

MML~MML~MML

When the Rebellion got Milo back after a full week, Zack was completely ecstatic, eager to see his Mate, and worried about what had happened in that week. He'd lost all communication with him on day four and was left hoping that the block that had been put up was because of some kind of chemical not because Milo had undergone the Mind Lock.

He'd been waiting in the med-bay for the okay to go in and make sure his love was okay.

Mort, their makeshift Doctor, came out and waved Zack over. "I'm going to warn you now, Bright Light, Danger's a mess. He was beaten pretty bad, then had some form of the early version of the Mind Lock serum injected into his brain. The bad news is, he knows nothing about any of us, or about the Rebellion, which is maybe what saved his life with the Order," Mort explained.

Zack breathed out a shaky breath and bit back a sob, "But he's alive?"

Mort nodded, "Yeah, he'll make a full recovery."

"What's the good news, Buddha?" Zack tapped his foot nervously.

"You'll want the really bad news first."

Zack tilted his head, then nodded, knowing he'd be Milo's caretaker while the younger was injured.

"The serum injected in him was the first attempt at the Mind Lock, it twisted the person's mind, making them think they were loyal to the Order because the Rebellion started the war against the government. Essentially everything the person knew was flipped. Prideful to humble, hopeful to hopeless, courage to fear. Understand?" Mort asked.
