"Okay so here's the deal. I am subbing in for your teacher today and according to her we are playing dodgeball." Sounds like fun I guess. "I'm going to split you up into teams of three and then we'll have six games going at once."

He, being our school's football coach, calls out our names. Eventually getting to mine... "Amaya, Damien, and Elizabeth." He keeps going as if he just didn't ruin my mood and finishes calling of the rest of the names.

Just great. At least he can't talk while he throws and dodges balls. I walk over to him and Elizabeth and see them talking together. Elizabeth is a short brown haired grey eyed girl who transferred to our school last semester. We don't really get new kids at our school. But she pretty quickly found her place here and everything seemed settled. I didn't know that Damien even noticed her let alone talked to her. Then again he takes notice of anything that has boobs and moves so...

I walk up behind them. "Damien, Elizabeth... I had no idea the two of you knew each other?!" They turned around startled trying to come up with an explanation. Hmm interesting, I guess Damien has been less ass-like since she came here. I get less paper balls to the head anyway. Maybe they are a thing even if I've never seen them together. "Whatever, let's just get the game started huh?"

I turn to see who our opponents are and to my utter glee I get to throw hard rubber balls and none other than Emma! This bimbo is going down today.

Coach walks along and lays six dodgeballs in the middle of both teams and walks away. He gets on the bleachers, away from the eager looks and fidgety hands and blows the whistle. Good call on his part bc as soon as the whistle blows balls are flying every which way.

By the time we are 20 minutes into the game Damien is out from our side and Max and linebacker and Jasmine a cheerleader are out from Emma's. It's now one on two. How she managed to avoid getting hit up until now I have now clue, but she's going to get it.

Seeing a collective of bored students Coach pauses the games to give the other students instructions to head out the fields to start running laps. With the assistant coach who I have no idea when he showed up. Once the students leave Coach blows the whistle again and the games resume.

Yet when I turn to look at Emma she has this evil gleam in her eye. She's kinda starting to look creepy.

I throw a ball right at her and she ducks and grabs it along with three others off the floor and begins pelting Elizabeth with them.

What the hell. What on earth does she think she is doing. And Elizabeth.... just keeps on weakly flinging them back at her. Girl she doesn't need more ammo. Quit it.

Fed up with this idiocy after a minute of watching it enfold, I grab one of the balls and with as much force as I can throw it straight at Emma. Only to be shocked that five other balls hit her at the same exact time. Emma goes down like a sack of potatoes.

Coach, finally seeing the mess comes up to us just as Emma is waking up and the bell rings. I go over to Elizabeth and pull her up by the waist just as Damien walks back in. Seeing the mess he grimaces offers to take Elizabeth to the nurse. Well there goes my escape. I turn back to face Coach and see that all the students have gone back to the locker rooms to change except for Emma, five other girls and myself.

Peachy. Coach helps Emma up and takes her to the nurse, directing us to follow behind him. All six of us girls drag our feet as we walk behind him to the front offices. He drops Emma at the nurse and asks us to follow him to the principal's office. He sits us all outside and walks inside to talk.

We just sit there in silence and wait. Coach walks out and tells us that we can all go in now.

As soon as we walk in Principal McMann gestures toward the chairs in front of the desk without looking up from the computer. We all silently take our seats and wait for the verdict.

He looks up and directly at all six of us. "Let me see if I have his right. There were six games of dodgeball going on, and half way through Coach sent the players who were out to run the field. Once they left the game resumed only to have Emma throw balls directly at Elizabeth. Seeing this you six thought the best way to stop it would be to throw dodgeballs at Emma. Is that what I assume happened."

We all just look at each other and then back at the principal. "Okay here's the deal. It was dodgeball so the aspect of the game is to avoid getting hit by a ball. Emma didn't. What Emma did to Elizabeth was unwarranted as was what you six did to Emma. Unfortunately I just can't send you all to detention because this was brought to my attention after the bell rang for the end of the year. Yet you all can't leave without some form of punishment."

The door slams open and the superintendent of the district walks through the door. Great. This man just so happens to be Emma's father. "I have heard the stories and the six of you including Emma will be going to anger management camp!"

"WHAT!" The echo of the six of yelling at the same time reverberated through the small office.

"I will not tolerate this kind of behavior in my pac-place of work. I suggest you go home and pack up your stuff because this camp is two months long. Good afternoon." He turned and walked out the door slamming it shut.

Each of us flinched in our seats. We turned from the door and looked at the principal. He looked at us with pity and wrote the notes that we would take home with us to sign. I sighed and grab the note and walked back to the locker room to grab my things.

"This flipping sucks" I mumble to myself slamming my locker door shut. "Summer is supposed to be my break from these people."

"It's not like I want to be anywhere near you either" I turn to see Vanessa shove her way through the door. She's head cheerleader and has blond hair and blue eyes. Cliche, I know, but at least it's natural.

"No one really wants to be in your presence either Vanessa."
"You're not exactly the best of company either."

I turn to see the Dawson twins, Mackenzie and Taylor,  trudging through the door. Mackenzie and Taylor both have red hair and green eyes. It's hard to tell them apart but if you ever get caught in a prank or end up in detention you now who to blame or who you'll see. Those two are known as the trouble twins around school.

"Yeah, you and what company. Everyone is scared to be near the two of you." I turn to find Amber casually leaning against a locker with a paint brush sticking out of her honey colored hair. Her hazel eyes were trained on the twins who just shrugged.

"Says the girl who hides in the art room all day instead of joining the rest of civilization." Jackie mentions as she struts in and over to her locker. Her black ponytail tied up high and her brown eyes ever confident.

"Says the girl who doesn't have anytime for anyone but the badminton court." I snark back. Tired of the banter.

Yeah I know we were all quiet in the front office and the principals office like we didn't know each other, but the truth is most of us in this school have grown up together. But by the time we reached high school we'd found our own friends and own groups.

Here's how it works at our school. There are technically five groups.

1. The populars (football jocks, student council, cheerleaders) Vanessa
2. The jocks (sports players and team reps) Jackie
3. The geeks/nerds (top students in class, orchestra, band, artists) Amber
4. The troubled (emo, goth, pranksters, gangs) Mackenzie and Taylor
5. The blended (people who belong to more than one category so are set apart to avoid upsetting the social dynamics) Me

Oddly enough each of the six of us were from one of the groups. Plus we all clearly didn't like each other. So we are totally going to have a great two months. Grabbing my bags of the floor I head out the door and to my car ready to enjoy my last week of freedom. Because starting next Monday I'm going to hell.
