Tyler Castle

Why does Ryder have to be so obnoxious? Walking down stairs I see, Hanna sitting on the couch and Claire standing in the middle if the room. I wonder where Mr. Jones is? Claire spots us coming down and she motions her hand for us to go in the room. We look at each other weirdly and walk in the living room, taking a seat in between Hanna.

"Okay, Good!" Claire smiles widely and sits on the recliner.

"Uh, mom? Why ar-" She cut Ryder off.

"Shush, let me speak."

Claire let out a small sigh and smiled widely. She takes a look at each of one of us.

"Okay, you know the carnival that is held every fall, towards the end of October or the beginning of November?"

Ryder nodded his head, I knew what she meant but I find those useless. They're meant for little kids, not teenagers but they go just to get drunk or high. So I never went to them.

"Well, I was gone for the weekend because, I had to convince my boss that if I could run the carnival for the week, I might become CEO. That means that I'll get more money but I'll have more hours than usual," she finished.

Wow that's great news, and big. The look on Ryder's face was not surprised at all, but mine, it was priceless. Maybe because my mom didn't have a job, I didn't have a job, and Josh just got fired from the warehouse he worked at so basically none of us had good enough jobs or we didn't have jobs at all.

"Wow, congratulations Claire," I smiled and nodded my head.

"Yeah, way to go mom," Ryder says sarcastically with a playful smirk. Claire gave Ryder a stern look and he changed his expression once she planted her eyes in him.

"Yay! Mommy!" Hanna runs up to her mother and Claire picks her up and hugs her, placing her into her lap.

"Isn't there always a theme to them every year?" I asked.

"Oh, yes! And since it's in the ending of October it'll be held, the theme is Halloween. The carnival will be held from October 31st to November 2nd," she replies.

I love Halloween, it's my favorite month and my favorite Holiday. Not only because I'm getting candy, and don't judge me, I still go trick-or-treating, but only because it's the only one time of the year where you can express what you like or show people who you are. Like in middle school, we couldn't dress up because the principal thought there was a higher risk of getting bullied, and plus we had uniforms.

Worst years of my life. And thankfully, Halloween falls on a Friday so that's another plus.

"Hanna, can you go upstairs, I have to talk to Ryder and Tyler," Claire glances at us and puts Hanna off of her lap.

Ryder and I look at each other wide eyed. Did she find out about the party? Or maybe she thinks something is going on between Ryder and I. And ewe, that's gross.

Hanna walks upstairs. Claire folds her hands together and looks at both of us.

"So, guys. I wanted to talk to you about the carnival."

Wait, what? I thought she was going to ask what happened last night or how was Hanna.

"I need some volunteers and I know you guys have some friends, so if you don't mind, can you ask them? I'll sign your learning service hours papers, I just really need help and I can't do this. I thought this was going to be easy," she curses under her breath and sighs.

"Don't worry Claire. We'll get enough help as you need, it'll just take time. And we'll help you set up, order some things, and get people to work some things," I smile a Claire and look at an angry Ryder.

I knew he would blow a fuse about this. Ryder, and volunteer work? Yeah right. He can't even clean his own room. I bet by next week his room will be a mess again.

I lip synced him "I'm sorry," but really, I wasn't. He gets what he deserves, it's his fault, he should learn to be out there and help. Instead of partying and banging girls.

"Oh, thank you so much!" Claire stands up and hugs us both.

                                  *  *  *

"Really Tyler?"

Ryder was pacing back and forth. Geez what's his problem?

"Okay first, why are you pacing? There's nothing to worry about, it's just a damn carnival," I sit on my bed and cross my legs.

Ryder stops pacing and looks at me. Seriously. And it was really creeping me out. I never take him seriously.

"What? Ewe, Ryder stop," I look away.

"You don't understand," he nods his head.

"Understand what? Tell me, and maybe I would understand."

He sits on my bed in front of me and begins his story.
