Taeyong:
Hands shook me awake and I sat up with a start.
"Yuta?" I gasped out loud. His mother's face crumbled in front of me and my heart stopped.
"Is he OK?" I asked quietly.
"He just came out of surgery. They said he's fine. He's moving to the ICU now." My head dropped in my hands and I was dizzy with relief.
"Can we go see him?" I needed to see him. My mind was still trapped on the image of him lying on the floor covered in blood. I couldn't see anything else.
"In a little while." She answered and sat next to me. "You'll need to have a shower. You can't risk bringing in any infections." She patted my head gently and handed me a small bag. "Your mother said your friend brought you some clothes and they'll let you shower in the staff area. I'll wait here for you, OK?" I nodded slowly and a nurse came to lead the way to the staff facilities.
I rubbed my eyes while I stood in the shower and let the hot water wash over me. They felt swollen and grainy and sometimes I felt like I couldn't be bothered keeping them open. That was until my eyes actually did close and all I saw was red. When I opened them again my hands were clean and I watched the last of Yuta's blood disappear into the drain. It made me feel sick.
There was a mirror near the sink when I stepped out of the shower and I tried to avoid looking at it but something caught my eye when I walked past it. Just under my collar bone, there was a bright red-purple mark on my skin. I touched it lightly and tears welled in my eyes again. I got dressed in the clothes from the bag and threw on the beanie Jaehyun must have thrown in because he knew it was Yuta's favourite.
When I left the room I was a little lost. I hadn't been paying much attention to where we were going when I was following the nurse. Damn... I didn't have my phone with me and everyone here looked so busy... I decided to just start at the beginning again. There were always boards at the front of hospitals, right? I just had to look for the one that said ICU.
I skidded to a stop when I entered the main waiting room in the front of the hospital. Since Jaehyun had brought me a bag I thought everyone had gone back to the dorms, but they were all here. Everyone was draped over some piece of furniture. Some were sleeping but the ones awake were huddled together and talking quietly. Jaehyun spotted me first, shooting up out of his seat and half running towards me.
"Taeyong... Is everything OK? Is Yuta out of surgery now?" For some reason I was slow to respond lately so it took me a while to nod.
"He's fine. I'm ...I was just showering and I got lost. Do you know where the ICU is?" Everyone else had drifted over after Jaehyun and a few members gave me a hug while Jaehyun answered.
"It's two corridors down. I'll take you." He said softly. There were murmurs from the rest of the group to say hi to Yuta's mother when I saw her and to Yuta if he was awake. I just nodded. It was hard to find the effort to speak, really.
"Come on." Jaehun took me by the arm and we headed back down the way I had come. We passed one hallway and just before we entered the second one I noticed Jaehyun had a band-aid on his arm.
"What happened?" I pointed at it. "Did you get hurt?"
"Oh...it's...They asked us if anyone was willing to donate blood. For Yuta." My steps faltered and I stopped.
"What?" My head started spinning again.
"The doctors in the ER. I know they told you he needed to replace a lot of blood." I did know. My blood type was O so I could donate to anyone. It was a different story the other way around, but I was devastated when they had tested my blood and told me my iron was too low. I had wallowed in that hole of self-pity for hours. I was never going to be mad at Yuta telling me to eat more ever again. It had almost cost me his life.
