The Box churned and rattled as it ascended up to the Glade. It carried something peculiar this time. Unlike the other times, the Box carried a girl. The second one to come into the Glade in a row, and the last one to ever enter it. As it lurched upward, a faint light began to shine through a crack in a ceiling somewhere above where the girl lay motionless.
Suddenly, the Box came to a stop. All was quiet for just a few seconds. The doors to the box creaked open as Newt climbed down to investigate. About 30 others, all boys, were watching.
"Hey, Newt, what is it?" Gally asked.
"Gally, shut your bloody mouth and let me talk." Newt crept closer to the girl, who was turned away from him, laying on her side. He slowly turned her over, only to reveal a beautiful face lined with shining blonde hair. There was whispering among the Gladers, as Alby made his way to the front. She looked the slightest bit familiar to Newt, but he didn't let it show.
"Newt, what is it?" Alby asked in a concerned voice.
"It's another bloody girl." Newt replied.
"What's that in her hand?" asked Chuck from somewhere in the crowd.
Newt took a small slip of paper from her hand. "Use her well."
"What does that mean, Alby?" Gally asked.
"I don't know. Newt, is she dead?"
"No. She's breathing, but we should get her to the Med Jacks." said Newt.
"You heard him. Greenie, you and Newt get her out of the Box. Get her to Clint. Tell him to make sure she has no severe injuries, make sure she's okay. Everyone else, get back to work. We have to make sure everything runs smoothly, girl or not." Alby said.
Thomas jumped down and helped Newt get the second girl in the Glade out of the box. "It's okay. I got her." Newt said, and picked her up and carried her towards the Med Jacks. She was surprisingly light, and it almost seemed as if Newt's limp had disappeared completely as the strangely beautiful girl lay in his arms.
As they approached the Med Jacks, the girl started breathing heavily, almost as if she were having a bad dream. She started to shake and tremble. Newt started to run into the shack as Clint ran out, followed by Jeff.
"Listen, take care of her. Make sure she's okay." Newt gave the girl to Clint gently, as though she were made of glass that could shatter with the touch of a finger.
Clint took her around the corner to a room with a bed that was already made. He set her down carefully, determined not to wake her. Newt stood in the doorway, afraid that if he took his eyes off her she would wake up. For the first time, Newt was able to get a good look at her. She had long, wavy, blonde hair and a calm, beautiful face. She was fit, but thin at the waist, as though she hadn't eaten in about a day or two. He suddenly felt himself care for her in a strange way. He wanted her to wake up suddenly. He wanted her to care for him, too.
Newt shook away these thoughts and started to walk out the door. But, in the corner of his eye, he thought he saw the faintest hint of movement in her hand, almost like a twitch of the nerves.

Newt went later that day to check on the girl . This time with Thomas. He had just finished his run and was dying to see the new girl. Earlier that day, Teresa had made a huge fit, up in the treehouse. She had thrown every rock, weapon, and piece of food she could find at the screaming Gladers below. However, she was able to come down and help take care of the other girl, who had shown up the day after Teresa.
Thomas and Newt walked into the Med Jack and found the room with the strange girl. She was still unconscious, but she had nearly stopped breathing. Her skin had turned alarmingly pale since she came out of the Box. She was warm to the touch, but her hands were shockingly cold. Thomas noticed the worried look on Newt's face.
