Alby was sitting up in his bed, muttering to himself. He was sweating, although he felt frozen. All of his memories kept flooding back, more and more. He remembered Newt, Minho, Kaya, and Thomas. Especially Kaya and Thomas. Thomas deserved to be put in the Maze, he put them there. Helped the Creators build the place. Kaya most certainly did not. She didn't deserve any of it. Her powers, he remembered, she did deserve. But not the torture that came with them. He recalled her practicing them. He would go hide somewhere, and she would locate the exact coordinates of his location. It was exhausting, but she was able to do it. The Creators would make her do it. To find each and every one of the Gladers. He spent countless days comforting her, with the help of the other Gladers. They were a family. Until the day Alby went into the Maze.

"You okay, Alby?" Kaya walked into the room, followed by Newt, Minho, Thomas, and Teresa. He didn't respond.

"Alby, we found a way out of the Maze." Newt sat down next to him. "Alby?"

"We can't. We can't leave. They won't let us." Alby whispered. Kaya crouched down on the floor in front of him.

"What do you mean?" she asked him.

"I remember." he looked into her eyes as tears threatened to spill over his.

"What do you remember?" she began to worry.

"You. Being tortured and beaten right in front of us. Your powers would drain you every day. And there was nothing we could do about it. But they gave you strength, regeneration. That's how you recovered so quickly. He did this." Alby pointed at Thomas. "To you. I remember him wiping the part of your memory so that you couldn't remember your powers. Ever."

Thomas went pale as Kaya slowly stood up and turned to face him. "How could you hide this from me? Gally was right. You know who Teresa is, you knew about my powers, and you knew that going into the Maze would throw everything into chaos! I'm done with you, and this stupid place, and my stupid powers." And with that, she turned on her heel and walked out the door. Newt started after her, but Minho held him back.

"Let her go. She'll be fine." Alby put his head in his hands.

Newt looked at Thomas. "Did you know?"

He shook his head. "No. I'm sorry, Newt–"

"It's not your fault." A series of yells came from outside. "Come on, let's go." Minho, Newt, Teresa, and Thomas ran out, leaving Alby behind. As they jogged out the door, All of the Gladers ran up to them. Kaya ran up to Newt.

"What's going on?" he asked.

"It's the Maze doors. They aren't closing." she nervously looked back at the wall, then back at Newt. Suddenly, a loud CRACKechoed through the Maze as everyone covered their ears. One of the Walls was opening, then another, and another. All four walls had opened up, making a clear path for the Grievers to surround them all. An ear-piercing shriek followed.

"GRIEVERS!" Gally cried. Kaya's hands began to tremble, her whole body started to go weak. Gally noticed the scared look on her face and put his hand reassuringly on her shoulder.

"You okay?"

"They're coming. We're going to die. We're all going to die." she whispered to herself.

"Hey. It's okay. You're going to make it, I swear. Newt, what do we do?"

"Alright. Winston, Zart, Frypan, you guys take your groups and hide in the Deadheads. Chuck, go with Teresa, Thomas, Minho, and me to the Council Hall and barricade the doors. Kaya, go hide in the Box. You'll be safe there. Gally, look after her and make sure she's safe."

Gally nodded and led Kaya towards the Box. She kept glancing back at Newt as she saw the faintest hint of movement running into the Glade from the Maze. It was a Griever. And it was headed right for them. Kaya froze and pulled Gally's sleeve and pointed at it as it came closer at an alarming pace. Without hesitating, Gally scooped up Kaya in his arms and ran to the Box as fast as his legs would carry him. As they approached it, two other Gladers opened the trap doors and jumped inside. Gally put Kaya down and held open the doors so she could get in. But she stayed still. She wouldn't move. It was almost as if an invisible force was holding her back. Kaya could hear Gally yelling her name, telling her to get inside the Box. And yet, she could only watch as the Griever came closer and closer. Suddenly, a spark ignited inside of her. A growing surge of... powerflooded into her veins as the Griever ran faster and faster. Then, another memory came into her mind. A woman stood, as Kaya now was, facing a monster coming closer. She stayed still as well. A calm look spread over her face as she took a stance and hit her forearms across each other in front of her. A golden glow emitted from her hands and was sent into the monster as it flew backwards, like a force had pushed it back. A name echoed through her head, over and over, but she couldn't grasp what it was. Something about wonder. A calm was instilled in her she felt as she could destroy the maze with her fist. As she was sucked back into real life, she took a few steps towards the Griever, and slammed her forearms in front of her to create an X, and a wave of scarlet colored energy forced its way into the Griever, pushing it back into the air 100 yards until it hit the ground with a large THUD. Slowly, she turned around and hopped down into the Box, completely ignoring Gally's shocked face.

"Kaya, how—"

"I DON'T KNOW!" she screamed, this time with a bolder red energy coming out of her forcing the whole Box to shake. Her hands shook, and she felt exhausted. She took a deep breath and tried to calm herself. Gally took a step back, clearly scared of what he had just witnessed. Before he could say anything, a boy ran up to the Box, rattling the trapdoors, trying to get in. He screamed for help as a Griever came and grabbed him, pulling him away. Kaya climbed out of the Box, sprinting towards the Council Hall. She didn't know what she was doing, but she knew that she had to find Newt. She was almost at the door when a claw came and snatched her foot, dragging her along the ground, away from the Council Hall. The Griever wouldn't let go, no matter how much she thrashed and screamed. Then, it stopped and let out a horrid screech. A spear stuck out of its side. It's grip released as it fell to the ground, dead. A group of boys ran to her, Newt among them. Without saying anything, he ran up to her and held her in his arms as she collapsed from exhaustion. Finally, she gave into the darkness, and everything went black.

Newt saw Kaya getting dragged away by a Griever when a sudden rage filled him. He cried out her name and tried to help her, but Thomas held him back.

"Newt! Stop! You can't go after her. They'll kill you!" he yelled. Newt got out of Thomas's grip and ran to her, spear in hand. While he was running, he threw it, hitting the Griever on the side. It released Kaya, and she scrambled to her feet and ran to Newt. Without warning, she collapsed, falling to the ground. Newt caught her, and ran with her in his arms to the Council Hall. As soon as everyone was inside, he set her down on the ground, but he didn't leave her side. He noticed how tired and almost dead she looked. Out of nowhere, the building shook. A Griever had gotten on the roof. Silently, Thomas motioned for everyone to get to the back of the hut, trying not to make any noise. They slowly inched their way to the back wall when a huge claw cme in and grabbed Chuck through the wall. They all yelled out his name and pulled him back in. The Griever was about to sting Chuck when a sudden wave of energy separated Chuck from the Griever. All of the Gladers looked back. There, with her body completely surrounded by a beautiful purple aura of pure energy, was Kaya. They were all so distracted by her that they almost didn't notice the two Grievers at the door. Kaya's eyes widened in surprise as another claw reached in and grabbed Alby by the leg, pulling him back into the wall. Thomas lunged for him, barely able to grab his fingertips. They held onto each other, Thomas barely able to keep his feet on the ground. Before anyone else could help them, Alby whispered something to Thomas and let go.

"Alby!" Kaya screamed. She ran outside, but he and the Griever were nowhere in sight. But coming towards them was a very mad Gally. He approached Thomas without saying a word, and punched him square in the jaw. Thomas fell to the ground, but soon got back up. The other Gladers held back Gally before he could attack him. There was a lot of yelling, but for Kaya, everything was a blur in slow motion. She saw someone stab themselves with a Griever syringe, then Teresa kneeling over Thomas, Newt yelling at Kaya, telling her to answer him. A worried look spread across his face. She looked over at him, barely able to comprehend what was going on. Then, for the second time that night, she blacked out.
